I thought an update on my Kona European trip might help other Kona owners go on longer trips with this great EV. Only negative is the range fell to around 240 to 250 miles range and a 3.7Kwh due to driving at realistic speeds not 55 miles an hour.
Having only owned my Hyundai Kona Ultimate EV for just two weeks and the only time I charged it was on my home Easee charger. We set off from Manchester to Fréjus in the South of France approximately 1,050 miles. While we had travelled the same journey many times in a petrol car, this was our first time in our EV. We only used Google maps to plan our trip as previous experience made us confident that charging in France would be no trouble at Motorway services. In France the motorway services appear to be every twenty miles or so all the way fromCalais to the South of France. As expected we did not experience any waits or faulty chargers on our journey. While driving our EV the same way as a petrol car, at an average speed of over 80 miles an hour (yes above road speed limits but you rarely see French police or speed cameras on the motorway). The journey took us 23 hours from start to finish about 3 hours longer than in a petrol car. The cost in petrol normally from start to finish around £450 ending the journey with an almost full tank. The cost of charging our car using a Charge map card (accepted at every charger we stopped at) only £153.26. We did not in counter any problems charging in France for the four weeks we were there. Do not worry about driving in a EV in Europe, if a novice EV user like us could do it with just two weeks experience driving our new car then anyone can do it.
