I suggest that you get the clarification in writing, email or snail mail the question, don’t phone, then, say there were an accident, they can’t refute the conversation ever happening. I was once told by them I couldn’t add a hoist to my car when my health deteriorated, I would have to replace my Alhambra with another Alhambra. Two years later their management said that this hadn’t been necessary (unnecessarily expensive I might add!).
We had the same issue when my wife first needed hand controls. We assumed that they would just fit them to her VW Tiguan but no, they insisted that we ordered a brand new car and she wanted another identical VW Tiguan. Daft.
The question about ‘what if you have an accident’ often comes up on this forum when car usage is discussed. On the one occasion that I had to make an insurance claim on my wife’s Motability car (which I am the named driver for) they didn’t question me at all about ‘why’ I had been using the car or for what purpose.
