I’m currently changing my daughters Hyundai i20 which we bought new 6 years ago. The total cost of ownership (depreciation, insurance, servicing, tyres, road tax etc) has totalled £1,300 a year and it’s been just as ‘worry free’ as a Motability car. The same car through Motability, even with nil AP, would have cost £3,250 a year.

My mum and dad (mum is the one claming) have done that for years as they aren’t bothered about a top of the range or big car anymore and not bothered about changing every 3 years. Last year they chose to rejoin the scheme and had a crossland. Only the other day my dad sat down, did the sums over 5-6yrs and said if we have another car it will be are own. My dad is in his 80s
