The irony being that the carbon footprint of manufacturing an EV is substantially bigger than that of diesel or petrol equivalent and takes many years to offset. No Motability EV will ever offset within its 3 year lease.
I think they will continue greenwashing the scheme due to uncertainty in regard to residual value and demand for used diesel cars in years to come.
When the majority of our energy is coming from renewable sources (some years away yet) then EVs will be a no brainer but for now hybrid is the greenest option. Not an opinion, scientifically proven fact.
