I’m sorry, what did i miss – with what justification would a company cancel those orders?
The only justification for that would be if Motability says “the car isn’t on the scheme anymore, so we’re not buying it”. As far as i am aware, that hasn’t happened.
He placed a binding order. Recently we had discussions about whether or not you can cancel no problem, i am firm on the side that no, if you place an order, without *exceptional* circumstances, you should not cancel your order (or complain if you get charged a fee).
This goes both ways, especially if you pay a deposit on top. We could argue that in case of the Astra PHEV, that was only one day or so on the scheme, an order might be cancelled (if anyone was stupid enough to pay £6500 for an Astra, but alas) – but not half a year after placing the order. It’s hardly the guys fault that Toyota can’t get the car built in a reasonable time frame.
What happened, and i’d put money on it, is that they convert Motability orders to private orders with the excuse that the car is removed from the scheme, hoping that no one makes noise.
Who cares if the disabled guy is already waiting 7 months on his FIRST car. Nah, absolutely not. A dealer can’t just cancel an order without justification, which in this case would be that Motability doesn’t pay for the car on delivery because it’s not on the scheme anymore. The motability search says you’re looking at cars ready *to order*, not *wouldn’t be cancelled if delivered today*.
