Glos Guy, you may be able to avoid the cost of the sliding rear seat on the X1 (which was standard when we got ours) if the back rests themselves still have multi-position adjustment. Setting them vertically adds a lot of room in the upper area of the boot, allowing me to get MrsW’s ridiculously large suitcase in end on , which I can’t with them in the normal reclined position.
