On a more serious note, have to agree with Mr Wings. The F35 so-called Lightning plays fast and loose with a name belonging to Lockheed and English Electric. That aside it IS hideously expensive and worryingly complex for the rough environs of a carrier deck. Lift-engines used largely for takeoff and landing add a great deal of weight and an even greater deal of twiddly moving parts. A proper flat deck for the carriers and fixed wing aircraft to fly from them would have been better. But then the US would not be able to sell us worrying vectored-thrust aircraft. P1154, anyone?
