If you get a car from a hire company this may apply,
“You will be responsible for any unrecorded damage and may need to pay an insurance excess.”
Always check the vehicle over thoroughly and take photos if you can, especially the fuel level as they have been known to just lie and charge you a fortune for missing fuel and non recorded damage.
