I agree with this totally and I’m quite surprised we find ourselves in this position. We are due to order our fourth Motability car right now. From the first time we were entitled to join the scheme, it’s been an absolute no-brainer in value-for-money terms but now, with the upward pressure on APs, it now looks marginal in value for money terms and when we take into account the fact that if we opt-out of the scheme, we can go for something a couple of years old (there are some absolute bargains out there) we are very close to deciding to not renew. I get that Motability brings a fair chunk of peace of mind but that only takes you so far. In fact, we were going to order a Volvo XC40 today, to beat the price increases but felt unhappy with effectively being pressured into it by Motability and their recent communications. It’s with a heavy heart that if the price list shows increases on our shortlist of cars (which seems massively likely), that’ll be us done with scheme when our current lease is up in December.
