I can only speak from personal experience. My sister-in-law is a Senior Maternity Nurse and she’s having to make Masks for herself and the other Nurses she works with during her ‘time off’ (from working 16 hour shifts 6 days a week). These are not PPE grade, of course, just ‘regular’. They’ve been full approved by the Hospital for the use they’re intended for.
Apparently having to wear the elastic loops around the ears all day makes the back of the ears really sore, so she’s designed a way for the masks to be worn attached to a cloth headband via big buttons at the back of the band. Then the elastic is looped around these buttons instead of behind the ears. (Again I stress this is NOT for anyone who works with Covid 19 cases, or in ICU or NICU, or anywhere that must be ultra ‘sterile’). They’ve been designed to be easily washable at a high temperature without the elastic stretching. (Don’t ask me how – I’m no seamstress!)
As they’re at home at the moment anyway her two daughters are helping her. The older one (12) is handy with the sewing machine while the younger one (10) sews on the buttons. (They’re also getting as full and Education as is possible at the moment. Daddy makes sure of that because he’s furloughed at home.)
This is as well as also caring for their 4 year old son of 4 their 2 year old son who has Downs Syndrome and a compromised immune system.
That family is ORGANISED.
