As i have said before, and elsewhere, I do think that awarding a title or gong to time servers , whether they be politicians, or civil servants etc, just for doing their job, and more especially to so called personalities and TV /Film actors, demeans the whole honours thing!
However, not all people should or even can be rewarded by material things, cash or a fancy holiday etc, and therefore, there should , in any fair society, be a national/ internationally recognised award scheme to thank them for their service ? eg. if someone has served the community etc or worked long & hard to achieve something that assists mankind then by all means reward them with an ‘honour’ ie a reward for exceptional services rendered!
For example, I know a volunteer who has selflessly given half her life to Parkinson’s UK, long before and since her husband succumbed to problems arising from the disease, personally raising over £450,000 for the charity- if anyone deserves recognition it’s her, and very many like her.
Compare that achievement to a party political or civil service timeserver
