DVLA saying I am still the keeper of my car I changed six months ago

Hi, swapped cars in March 2019, gave the old one back to Motability.

DVLA just written to say I am still the registered keeper and that someone else has applied to be the registered keeper. The only online options via DVLA system are bought/sold/scrapped – no page to say it’s a Motability car.

Motability never gave me a log book or V5 and never mentioned that I would have to do anything about informing DVLA I had changed cars, I thought the whole point is that they do it for you?

Both DVLA and Motability offices closed til Monday so thought I would check on here.

        Hello nicdigby

As a rule of thumb. Motability usually take care of  informing DVLA that you are no longer the registered keeper of the vehicle. I returned my old Motability car to the dealership where I got my new one from.

A week later I got a nice cheque for the good condition bonus. (have you had yours?)

Then about 3 weeks later I received a letter from DVLA stating that  I am no longer registered as the keeper of the old car.

Maybe just DVLA being slow. So please do not worry. Just ring Motability on Monday morning and they will sort it out.

Do let us know how you get on.

Nearly 3 years ago I had a notice of prosecution from the police for speeding on the M1. Unfortunately for the police I had  handed the car back to the dealer when I picked up the new car, six weeks prior to the speeding event. I wrote back to the police and informed them it was a mobility car and the name of the dealer where I handed it back. I said if they had Any other questions they should contact Mobility, I never heard any more from the police

nothing to worry about with Motability or being the registered keeper, a paper trial proves different, I would suggest your vehicle was brought by the dealership and didn’t alter registration to keep it for resale as one owner/full service etc. It’s very common but no come back on you, it’s a standard letter sent out by dvla if the vehicle has be untaxed or unsorn as off the road for a certain period. If your vehicle had gone to auction then the paper work would of been dealt with, it’s a dealership/sales thing. No come back on you just dvla checking to see if they can charge for its downtime and different ownership, ignore it they will produce a new v5 in the new owners name as long as you don’t claim ownership.

The DVLA took a little longer with the confirmation letter that we are no longer the owner of our previous Peugeot Partner Tepee took 5 weeks . Good condition cheque was received within a week ?

We had a similar situation, our old car was sold at auction and for some reason the V5 was not present so the buyer had to apply for a new one and we got a DVLA letter asking us to confirm we had disposed of the vehicle.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.
