Good condition bonus/Insurance claim

      Hi all,

A few months ago I had to claim on the insurance to repair another car I had reversed into, my damage was a small dent and paint chip on my rear bumper, Motability decided it didn’t need repairing.

My question is would this effect the good condition bonus at the end of the lease (this May)?

The reason I ask is yesterday someone reversed into my parked car while I was away from it, denting the rear door and leaving the scene without giving their details. So far while reporting it online they are giving me the choice of claiming on the insurance or leaving it as is and it will get sorted after handing the car back in May. Which clearly would mean I’d loose the bonus, but might I of already lost the bonus from the previous claim?

      Many thanks

Motability allow some damage as it is put down as wear and tare, the 1st accident since you reported it should still get you your good condition bonus but the second one depends on how badly damaged it is.

If DLM have informed you by text or other that a “repair not required” (RNR), there is no reason you will loose your GCB. You could speak with Motability to double check before making a decision.

I’ve had 2 insurance claims on 2 motability vehicles and always still got good condition bonus.

You can find out what excess you need to pay for insurance claims in your lease terms and conditions.

I suspect its less than the GCB

If so go ahead with the repair and then claim full GCB at a later date

Sorry, but as has been mentioned above there is no need to have a repair done as advised by DLM.  Why tell the OP to spend money where there’s no need to?  Unbelievable.

Because if the excess is £100 to repair and you stand to lose £250 gcb by handing it back with a big dent in the door

                  it aint rocket science

                  Maybe not so Unbelievable? Duh!

Been through this myself and it’s really easy if the insurer accepts it as no repair needed then that’s it done.  IF you get the repair done and pay the excess then you will not get GCB as a claim has been made at cost to the insurer.  The excess might be £100 but the total cost will be far higher.

Never go against what the insurer tells you it’ll end badly, you’re even advised not to use touch up pens etc.

Handing it back like it is imo will cost them their gcb

They do not have to drive around with a dent in the door, simply insist on the repair and although they may have to pay£100 excess they may be refunded if its agreed to be no fault damage

Possible £100 excess vs £250 loss of gcb

My point remains and we will see how this pans out

I had quite a scrape on my BMW X1 told the then insurer’s Direct Line, who said I didn’t have to have it repaired.when I handed the car back told the dealer the insurance new about the scrape and received the gab.

Personally for a mere £100 I would have had the car repaired and looking nice like it should

I would want to know at the time that my gcb was safe and not wait until handback

                          Each to their own

They did say it was safe after I explained the damage to them, obviously if there was other damage when it went back I assume I wouldn’t get it.

Although safe you do not have to drive with a dent in the door but you seem happy to do so

As above have you asked if you will still get your gcb

I hope you do get it

                              I personally would want clarification

If they said no you will not get it

You can if you wish to do so insist on the repair and possibly be charged £100 excess ( returnable if agreed no fault) and then that way your £250 gcb should be safe

Best thing either way is to get reassurance in writing from motorbility

I can only advise and explain how I would do things

Maybe you could update us following the handback

That way we can all be a little clearer if/when we are ever in the same spot

Again I hope it works out for you

Correct I have paid the £100 excess on 2 different cars to have them repaired and still recieved GCP at handover. Insurance claims definitely not effect your GCP.
