Is there an easy way of searching motability for vehicles that are equipped with AWD or 4WD rather than going to each vehicle separately to open up their specification and then performance spec in order to find their drive details?

I would much prefer to have an AWD/4WD vehicle due to where I live …. down a country lane that never ever gets gritted.

on the search tool theres a more filters box and in the specifications menu there is fwd  rwd and 4wd.

select 4wd and you should be good assuming theyve categorised them correctly.

A 2WD vehicle fitted with winter tyres will cope far better in snow than an AWD vehicle with standard tyres.

I really wouldn’t get too distracted by needing four wheel drive.

I understand but a little difficult to get out of that mindset having had 4wd vehicles for the past 30 years! Of course I have seen the videos of 2wd vehicle with winter tyres out performing 4wd with summer(?) tyres.

            Thanks for your advice.

One of the bigges’t problems is Motabilty reluctance to let you change the tyres, even if allowed you would have to pay for them yourself. That said where I live, I have always managed to get by with summer tyres and don’t see the need of changing over tyres twice a year, plus modern awd & 4×4’s oftern have snow mode which helps perhaps a little. That said, I do think all 4×4’s type vehicles should come standard with all season tyres, which there are a couple on the scheme that do.

When last in Norway I had the opportunity to drive both rear wheel drive car and a 4 wheel drive car both fitted with winter tyres. The rear wheel drive was just fine. But on more demanding roads, going up hill with sharp turns the 4 wheel drive with winter tyres felt a lot more secure. I was amazed as in the UK most traffic would be stuck or moving very slowly. I was driving slowly as my UK driving brain said stop driving and get off the road. The cars normal driver just drove as if the was no ice or snow.
