EV range.
Usually when its around 10 deg C and above its good, at 90% charge its usually 220-230 miles range.
Today its -2, and its showing 210 miles range…lol.
Not bad considering its below zero.
Yup, Winter is here.
Hope its nice, crisp and sunny where you are!!

Hence why we handed our Megane back in January….150 miles @ 0°C! And from a manufacturer quoted 280 miles!! We couldn’t even complete a 75 mile trip e/w without charging. Whereas I have seen over 700 miles range on our new ZRV hybrid!
November 18, 2024 at 9:14 am #293488i got used to it with Groot (24kwh Leaf)
Can i ask if you had frozen handles this morning?
My wife couldn’t get in.

November 18, 2024 at 9:45 am #293489Enyaq 85x, 0c here, did a full 100% charge yeterday, showing 234 miles, thatt’s a drop in range of almost 30% 🙁
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
November 18, 2024 at 9:53 am #293490My door handles were fine, no problem.
But Hyundai are quite accurate with WLTP figures, so kind of lucky there.
Not everyone can adapt quickly to new technology though!
Many will have their first Winter in an EV, and it is rather different.
You just got to adapt to conditions. Pre- warming the car is brilliant, and on a 300 mile runs, just charge when you need a toilet or coffee break.
November 18, 2024 at 10:02 am #293491Have to say JMC 700 miles of range is impressive, but if I was traveling 700 miles without stopping, I would go by plane.

haha good point! It’s just one less thing to worry about. We never had a home charger though so 700 miles was costing us £160 using public chargers. Oh and I am 48 and have never been on a plane 😆 🤣
November 18, 2024 at 11:12 am #293497definitely much harder justifying an EV if you can only use public chargers.
November 18, 2024 at 11:23 am #293498definitely much harder justifying an EV if you can only use public chargers.
yes you are 100% correct!! It cost £6 at home @10p per kW with a 60kwh battery. I was paying 79p! That’s an 800% increase lol. 1 day before we handed back the megane and picked up the ZR-V we received an email saying permission had been granted to install the charger. Motability had been so good letting us swap that we didn’t want to waste all the effort and time changing our mind and keeping the EV. 10 months later and I am still 50/50 that we did the right thing.

November 18, 2024 at 11:26 am #293501I’ve a heat pump, 289 miles in summer according to the GOM, 269 miles today. It’s not cold in Cornwall yet, so nothing close to -anything.
If I didn’t preheat daily without plugging into the charger, I’d probably get the 300+ I’m supposed to but I put my desire to be comfortable over my need to squeeze out every last inch from each charge.

November 18, 2024 at 12:11 pm #293502Yup Mark, its the only way to go. Dont worry about charge state.
I said to myself right from the outset, use the EV just like I used the petrol car. If it works for me, all good, if it doesnt, then change on next renewal.
It is a very different methodology using an EV, but its just hoops you have to jump through.
Its not for everyone, we all have different comfort zones.
Anyone can lease a duffer car, it is pot luck. But we are lucky to have Motability, for all its faults it gets it correct 99% of the time.
My buddy just ended his private car lease early, on an 18 plate Merc, and he had to hand the car back and pay a few thousand to the lease company.
We do get a very good deal.
November 18, 2024 at 12:53 pm #293503I completely agree @Ioniq the scheme is great when it works. There’s no chance I’d be driving the car I have through any other means.
The one thing with driving without a care, the range will suffer. I’m sure if I wanted and was properly careful I could squeeze 330 miles or more out of the Hi5 in summer but I’m more than happy to charge ever 10 or so days (if I let it go down to sub 20%) while I’m doing the round town driving. I know I can get enough on a long journey but I really don’t think about range.
If I were to obsess, pre conditioning and heaters wouldn’t be allowed unless we can’t see out, I’d get more miserable miles out of the car. What concerns me is those who regularly measure their range and compared it against the WLTP and decide the car is unfit when it’s short. There’s always a reason for cars not going as far as others, whether it’s driving style or accessories used or a combination of both.

November 18, 2024 at 8:10 pm #293537Went to pre-heat my Enyaq this afternoon, and yet again the App wasn’t working the Usual “”Unavailable due to battery protection” messages.
Bl@@dy useless, it’s nowhere near the kewys, nothing else connected to it, no charger so not Octopus polling it to check charge state.
It’s been doing this for quite a while, go out to it and doors don’t auto unlock, touch door sensors and still don’t unlock, have to press the keyfob button.
Took my son shopping tonight, both times we came back to the car had the same issue.
Just checked the App and once again I have another favourite incorrect message “Doors Open” no they bl@@dy well aren’t 🙁

November 18, 2024 at 9:19 pm #293541E 3008 last full charge was 141 miles full to empty and the one before that was 175. It is only getting really cold here from yesterday. Getting about 2 and 2.4.
November 19, 2024 at 8:07 am #293548Heating, air con, seats and steering wheel on recorded 2.7 and 2.9 miles/kWh yesterday
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.
November 19, 2024 at 11:03 am #293561Winter definitely makes a difference to the Ariya, we have to do a weekly trip to the physio, usually I average 4.2/4.4 yesterday I only managed 3.1.

Bloody hell Des. That’s dire mate. I haven’t monitored mine lately but although the gauge is still showing 3.5 miles kwh, I am noticing that the actual miles are dropping quickly. I’ll reset the mileage meter thingy when I fill to 100% later in the week.
I bet you’re glad to be out of it mate. Best of luck with your new car. That Scenic looks fantastic.

November 19, 2024 at 3:46 pm #293590I dont look at the mi/kw hr thingy, its a yoyo.
But I did today and it was 2.7 something like that. Its pretty meaningless and variable.
When the car gets to 40%, time to recharge!
November 19, 2024 at 7:23 pm #293602E3008
drove from junction 28 M1 to Watford – 133 miles and only used about 50%
drove back up to Watford gap to top up from 25% to 50% and ended at home about 20%
total 195 round drip
don’t think that’s bad for a long motorway drive in winter costing about £12 for entire trip
November 19, 2024 at 11:06 pm #293612Our ex30 said it was 6 miles annd 4% off the battery a 2mile journey today.

Short journeys are never very efficient, cars always suffer, petrol or EV.
How you getting on with the EX30? Its a good looking car and will turn heads wherever you go.
November 20, 2024 at 9:16 am #293625The cold weather is hitting us harder this year. Dropped to 2.8 kw/h on the Honda E. Was getting well in excess of 4 kw/h and also more than the claimed WLTP mileage on a regular basis when the weather was milder.
November 20, 2024 at 10:37 am #293635I did 15 mile round trip in the E3008 yesterday and lost 9% of battery! Outside temperature was 3c.
November 20, 2024 at 3:34 pm #293654Well, plugged in overnight, set to pre-heat using the Ohme App.
Went out at 6:30am, no pre-heating. Loaded the car and set off at -2c, none of the heated seats would work 🙁 luckily the steering wheel heater worked. Pulled over at a Greggs for a bun and hot drink, got back in and seats now working again.
Total round trip of 108 miles, 1.8 Miles/kWh on the way up, 2.6 miles/kWh on the return. For a 108 mile trip it used 58% of the battery.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
