hi guys just wanted to see if its just me are you sick of seeing offers that are for dla only prices and have to email to find out our rates, as looking for new car and so far had to send ten extra emails to find out what our offer is and half haven’t a clue dont even know what wpms is lol im not having a go at the guy who does the offers page either as he posts what he finds

Apologies if this is a little gibberish– am still rather under the post-operation fluence, but I hope you get the gist.

The fundamental problem is many dealers (and even Motability staff) do not understand how the differential pricing between WPMS and the other allowances/benefits works over the course of a 3 year lease. Hence they do not understand the Delta between WPMS and other benefits when they make special offers and discounts for the scheme.

With my VAPC hat on, I did take this up with a very senior manager at Motability – after a Japanese manufacturer introduced an offer which blatantly made the price of a scheme vehicle more expensive for WPMS veterans than other allowance recipients.

With tongue in cheek, I asked the manufacturer if it was because they hadn’t forgiven veterans past for kicking their Japanese backsides in World War 2.  Ultimately, their response was to pull the offer in total!

Motability would not actively intervene as they do not condone ‘special offers’ from dealers or manufacturers.

As Mitch says above, the best thing is ask the dealer offering a special offer, advising you are a WPMS recipient – then work it out for yourself using the current AP Delta of £1346 (for ‘Total Allowance’ vehicles) and working the correct offer AP back from there. It does get a bit more complex with WPMS ‘fixed weekly payment’ leases which results in a smaller Delta in the Advance Payments than with ‘Total Allowance’ vehicles.

There is actually one dealership who does now post the WPMS special offer prices (when they have any offers on) as they are signed up to an Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. When I pointed out they were not treating veterans equally, their CEO (a former RN Captain) became involved and now ensures they do post the corresponding offer for WPMS recipients.

Incidentally, like Mitch, I too had the ‘I thought all of you were dead’ response from dealers when I was on the scheme ! I made the best retort possible and immediately left the dealership (and ultimately the scheme for differing reasons).
