Premium paint

I am interested in a Cupra Born. When I asked about Aurora blue as a colour the dealer said this is a premium paint and I would have to pay the extra. A motability advisor also said I would have to pay the extra for any premium or special edition paint colours. However, when I spoke to a Lexus dealer, he said I can have any colour I like on the motability scheme.

Does anyone know who is correct?

Different manufacturers have different rules. I paid the extra for a premium paint on last car, Ford . This was the extra cost above what metallics allowed on scheme where, so I paid an extra £150 for a colour i wanted.

As above, but also worth mentioning it’s always best to check, some dealers are, shall we say, less than truthful.

My Skoda dealer insisted that the Velvet red I wanted was £1045, I asked Motability and they said ask the dealer so I ended up with the blue I didn’t really want.  I found out later that both were wrong, according to Skoda it should have only been £395, the difference between it and the standard metallic paint

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

The short answer is both are correct, as stated above some manufacturers have different rules for paint.

The more subtle answer is that some dealers will allow you some paint that the manufacturer has decided isn’t included, others won’t for the same car.

It’s all part of the decision making process, do you want a specific colour for that car and would that unavailability be a deal breaker.  Is there another car that you also like but are happy in a choice of available colours?

I ordered a Citroën c5 x and wanted pearlescent white which was £800, metallic was £600 so salesman said I’d have to pay the £200.

Upon collection the manager overruled and said nothing to pay.

I think the norm is to pay difference but some will work the system.
