So, Skoda just rang and unsurprisingly the dealer has refused any sort of refund as they say there is nothing wrong with it. The sound quality is just the way they are, if it’s not as good as previous systems then it’s tough luck basically.
I did look at the wiring this morning, it does look to be correct but there’s not way to reverse the lead to try it, the connector is keyed to prevent it being fitted the wrong way. I could remove and switch the connections in the plug but I have a feeling it’s not going to make much difference.
After looking at the wiring I’ve tried it again with the poly box removed and the boot floor folded back. It does make a difference, the boot floor isn’t just a fabric/rubber backed mat, it has a hardwood (particle board) backing and a fairly thick carpeting so it’s fairly solid.
As far as I can see my choices are,
A. Live with it, it’s not a terrible system, it’s just not as good as it should be considering the Canton upgrade used to cost £500-£700 on it’s own before they started selling packs.
Or, B. Reject the car back to Motability!
Probably not the best option!, for a start I’d most likely be charged £250 to cancel it. And realistically there’s very little chance at all of getting anything back from the dealer for the pack (£2035) and I’d then be left trying to find a suitable replacement. Not an easy job being 6’5″ and unable to fit into most of the other similar cars available on the scheme.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
