Just had an email that the new car is ready for collection next week. A week earlier than the lease ends – 23rd – and 2 weeks earlier than the extension arranged by dealer -29th March.
Am I right in thinking that I have to wait until 23rd when lease finishes before collecting?
I don’t really want to lose £250 on admin etc.

usually the date your initial lease is 3 years and you need to wait until that date arrives. the extention arranged by the dealer doesnt count

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

March 8, 2024 at 4:08 pm #265511Geriboi, give Motability a phone and check its ok first. You are not cancelling a car, its a changeover. You should not be penalised because the dealer wants to do the changeover a couple of weeks early.
The Motability salesperson should know what they are doing…maybe…lol
March 8, 2024 at 4:18 pm #265646Hi, I did contact Motability – they won’t allow it. They’d charge the admin fee because it’s ending the lease on the car early.
I explained to dealer. He is fine to wait.
It’s not that long to wait.
March 8, 2024 at 4:33 pm #267326It’s weird. I’m in this situation. My car is here my lease date ends 13th May however my motability account is now showing my current car as ‘on extension’ and saying my handover date is between me and the dealer. I’m confused ?
March 8, 2024 at 4:53 pm #267502Yep, my car is on extension until 29th March. Just arranged with new dealer to collect on 25th March. I can also leave the SEAT with them.

March 8, 2024 at 4:57 pm #267505I might pay the £250 if it’s offered as it’ll move the car to renewal at new plate dates in March

It’s up to you of course but I really wouldn’t pay £250 for something that is in no way your fault. I’d call Motability and try and find a compromise. If you found an extra £250 deposited in your bank account, you’d be chuffed. I understand wanting to get the new car sooner but the fact they’ll charge you because it’s turned up early is insulting. You’ve done your bit, found the car, arranged everything, waited patiently, etc. Why should you have to give them extra to get the car you’ll be paying for?
That’s just me though. I do understand the temptation to get it over with.
March 8, 2024 at 6:27 pm #267510I’m not losing £250 just for a few days. Plus I’d lose any Good Condition Bonus I think too, so potentially another £500 down.
March 8, 2024 at 7:02 pm #267511@geriboo I’d forgotten I’d loose that . Good point, that’s a step too far. @missingsound7 you are right actually.
March 9, 2024 at 6:38 am #267517You dont lose any good condition bonus if you hand the car back early.
I handed my first car back 1 and half years early and I only had to pay £50 plus got good condition bonus once it was handed back. So the £250 people are quoting is prob when your at the start off the lease not at the end.

I’m going to proceed and see what happens in this process and report back. For context my window for ordering was 10th February 2024 my current car says lease end 13th May 2024. Car ordered 12th May and delivered to dealers from stock. It’s arrived I’m just waiting on it being registered. My account on motability has changed to read ‘current car on extension as you have ordered a new car, the handover date is between you and the dealer’ which sounds to me like a green flag to get on with it.
March 9, 2024 at 1:20 pm #267620Oh well. That’s good news.. but I’ll wait anyway.. thanks
March 9, 2024 at 3:56 pm #267626unless motability give you a ‘real’ answer i’d wait til may. when i got the kona it originally came earlier than my date and dealer gave car to someone else and i got next one

Frustrating but Motability have said no to an early collection. I terminated a car just over three years ago as unsuitable/needs changed and in reality do not want another one on my account so not willing to push and go down that route.
March 13, 2024 at 4:12 pm #268344Well, car ordered 12th feb, car here and registered. Cannot handover until 11th may motability won’t let the changeover happen unless my current car is no longer suitable for my needs. Car is now going to go elsewhere and I’m back to the drawing board.
March 13, 2024 at 6:03 pm #268361I’m confused the dealer knows the handover date so if vehicle arrives early they should be keeping it for that date not registering it .

I’m not sure, this is my first renewal ever and also my dealer’s first ever motability order. He’s been so helpful it’s not in his hands however. I’ll just fit in with what the dealership decides tomorrow. If it has to be another order so be it.
