I have the Tucson Ultimate petrol. Its a nice car, plenty of room and a decent boot and never let me down.
Its not the most economical being petrol and not the hybrid, low 30’s around town 40 on a run
Both the Sportage and Tucson had PPF issues but, since been resolved via software updates. No problems since!
My personal choice would have been the Sportage if it was on the scheme at the time I ordered.

In the last week or so the Gpf warning has come on… something I’m not impressed with at all! Wasn’t told anything about this and it’s come as a great surprise. Equally, I’m less than impressed with my mpg…. Way poorer than my Peugeot 3008 and has also dropped around 3mpg in the last few weeks!!
My Motability dealer told me I shouldn’t worry, and this Gpf thing is something that all new cars have, yet anyone I know with a new car hasn’t got this issue. I certainly didn’t expect to be 10 mpg less than my 3008….

What has the mpg dropped to since the PPG light hascome on?
Both Hyundai & Kia are/were aware of this issue which I thought was sorted on their 2nd attempt to fix it. Whils’t new cars have the a PPF (GPF same thing mor American), as diesels do a DPF. However whats not common is for the warning light to come on.
Speak with Motability and tell them the car has a known fault and you have lost confidence in the vehicle.
Plenty of info re the issue on Sportage/Tuscon forums.
To try and clear it. Engine to operating temperature – above 3000 rpm in low gear @ 50mph or more and keep deaccelerating in gear.

Years ago we had an Antara that was fitted with a Dpf… had to go for a high rev drive for 20/30 mins every few weeks. I eventually had to return it due to this.
Most of my drives are low mileage… this was part of a discussion with my dealer when picking this car. Never had an issue with my 3008 at all.Dealer tells me it’s down to my driving style etc but I’m shocked that this has happened this quickly … it’ll be the same journeys and style I would’ve had in the 3008 so all very strange.
Dealer also told me he would get the chief engineer to call me.. still waiting.. but no issues with continuing to drive?

Family of 5 fits in no problem and have done several long distance trips in it. Comfy reliable family car..
To date I have not had the GPF warning light on, Including a 2 month stretch of primarily doing 5 miles a day. However the car regularly gets up to temperature on the commute and I do “engine brake” into roundabouts and going downhill. I asked about the “fix” for the GPF issue and the dealer said that there was no such fix..
MPG is averaging around 37.4 but the mpg does get better after some mileage.
Car has not missed a beat although fuel flap needed “adjustment” on 1st service and needs doing again on the 2nd. Also a limited range of colour, none of which I really like. The Sportage has better colours available.
However there is an imminent facelift due to drop soon so the Tucson in the picture above may not be the one you will get.

Hi Rich, my ecnomy isn’t great and never has been. Don’t put up with the PPF light being on, its not normal. Its obvious Hyundai/Kia haven’t come up with a reliable fix, when looking through the respective forums. There is also often a difference of oppinion between dealers, on whether you should drive the car or not.
It also seems if you have the issue early in owmership, you are plagued with it. Kia/Hyundai are definately aware of the issue however as you will see both in the Sportage forum on here and Hyundai/Kia forums, after the first forced regen dealers have an habbit on charging with any subsequent forced regens, even though they are aware of the issue, you are blamed.
Don’t deal with it yourself, speak with Motability and tell them what the dealer has told you and let them sort it, express you worry of driving with the light on and that your loosing confidence in the vehicle, as it a common problem which can be seen across the internet.

I picked up my sportage last week loving it so far. I read all the comments about ppf and hope I don’t start getting problems .My last 2 vehicles were diesel and I was warned about GPF because I was a low mileage driver but never got any problems over 8 years.
