@Marc. That is not true, it is optional at this stage as not all ISPs offer VOIP on their networks and the copper switch off is happening in phases and will be running into 2025. Also, the service you have is not “Full Fibre”, it’s a broadband package that is Fibre between exchange and cabinet, then copper from cabinet to your property.
It is true, we were with BT before and had fiber to cabinet, as you say the copper switch off is happening in phases, it’s already happened in our area. Anyone with existing copper can stay as they are, but anyone switching or even getting a new contract with their current supplier must have fiber to premises, if full fiber is in their street, and have their copper connection disconnected, I asked both BT and Vodafone if we could just stay as we were but they both said no.
Openreach came round and fitted the new fibre cable, I actually footed the ladder while it was fitted, the fiber cables were fitted to the telegraph poles in our street a couple of months before.
