Tesla Cutting Prices – Yet Again!

      I know that Tesla would be a popular choice for Motability customers, so I wonder if this latest development on the back of slowing EV sales makes that day come a little closer?;

Tesla has cut the price of its entry-level Model 3 car in Britain in the latest effort to boost demand for its electric vehicles amid growing competition and sluggish sales.

The car maker began selling a new version of the Model 3 on Tuesday for £39,990, £3,000 cheaper than the previous cheapest version.

Tesla has repeatedly cut prices in the US this year and reduced UK prices in January as it faces a sales war with incumbent manufacturers and a generation of Chinese car makers.

Electric car companies have also faced questions over demand after Rishi Sunak recently delayed a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars.

Tesla recently overhauled its Model 3 line, increasing the car’s range and changing its design, along with controversial tweaks such as removing the indicator stalks in favour of putting the controls on the steering wheel.

The new design is reportedly cheaper to produce, allowing the company to cut prices without sacrificing profit margins.

Tesla has kept the price of its family-sized Model Y the same at £44,990. The vehicle was Britain’s best-selling electric car last year, and the best-selling model of any car in June this year.

Earlier this month Tesla revealed disappointing sales for the third quarter of the year, posting a quarterly decline in sales. The company delivered 435,059 cars in the period, down from 466,140 in the previous three months.

Mr Musk is due to reveal how the sales drop has affected Tesla’s financials on Wednesday evening, when the company unveils quarterly results. He has suggested he could keep cutting prices during “turbulent times” for the electric car market.

In the US, Tesla recently cut the price of its Model 3 and Model Y close to record lows amid growing competition. Sales in the US have been boosted by substantial subsidies on electric car purchases.

Tesla released its updated Model 3 in the US and Europe last month but the new vehicle will not be delivered to customers in the UK until early next year due to production delays related to the driver sitting on the right-hand side of the vehicle. Tesla has stopped manufacturing its high-end Model S and X with the right-hand side configuration.

Less than £40k for a model 3. Shame they are not on the scheme.

The long range version can now do 415 miles. This sort of range will be standard in the next 5 years.

The one and only reason I would have a Tesla is because of their charging network, otherwise, I don’t think the cars are that good, and Musk is an absolute tool.
Indicators on buttons, apparently one above the other, what a load of cobblers.

Their charging network is opening up to none Tesla owners. All their new version 4 chargers, like the new ones just installed in Cornwall have contactless payment and can be used by anyone.

They can shift them faster than they can make them and that is why they will never appear on the scheme. Expected the Volvo to appear B4 now though, especially the little baby one which is only 42 for the top trim with rear wheel drive and still under the 53k limit with all wheel drive. But with a zero to sixty in around 3 seconds i think that will be deemed way to powerful for us lot been disabled and all.

What would motabilty do with them at the end of the 3 years. Second hand electric cars are not the most sought after vehicles at the minute. People are scared of them.

Did anyone see the bit in the news about the 2 guys in Scotland at the weekend who went out in their  Tesla and it was raining. The car wouldn’t start after they came back to it. Tesla have now said water has got into the battery and they want £17,000 to fix it. No ifs no buts if you want it fixed that’s the price.

I’ve never been a fan of Tesla’s but I actually really like the look of the new model 3. You’d probably have to pay £1.5k on top for the nice wheels and another £2k for a colour other than white.

I watched Rory Reid’s review on it (autotrader YouTube channel) and that was quite good. He demonstrated the indicators on the wheel and to be honest I’d rather have the stalks. Even selecting drive and reverse is done through the touchscreen and I don’t like the look of that either.

I was thinking that it should have a button called simple mode or something where it changes the front screen so all of the basic controls that you use regularly are there in front of you with nothing else to distract you

I think mine is 5m, but you can get longer for a few more quid. Get an untethered unit and buy your own cable. ev cables do upto 50m ones.

Indicators on the steering wheel sounds like a recipe for disaster. Unless I’m mistaken, steering wheels move. Do these indicator controls move with the steering wheel? If so, Imagine driving around a long bend and then having to indicate before the wheel has returned to centre. VW are moving away from haptic controls on steering wheels, after negative customer feedback on models such as the current Tiguan R-Line. Also, major controls through touch screen is a recipe for disaster. I had a Mercedes GLB for a week and the whole digital dash and Multimedia system kept going black. I had no idea how fast I was going. Imagine not being able select reverse or drive in that scenario. When will car manufacturers learn? All these screens are fine for infotainment, but not for vehicle controls.

Totally agree. Having test driven the Model 3 and Model Y, I can confirm their cars are pretty awful to drive, and the build quality is absolutely shocking. The only saving grace for Tesla is their charging network…

Tesla can cut the prices but still the insurance is way too high to ever go onto motability also The build quality needs improving and to be honest the new Smart would be better on motability and why it is not I have no idea.
