What are the rules for pension payments for long time disabled people? I am sure there are many who’s working life has been disrupted due to illness, what payment might you expect receive if you have worked for a small number of years before leaving due to ill health. Is there a minimum amount you would recieve if you’ve never worked? How does your pension payment affect PIP/DLA ?

You need 10 year of national insurance contributions to get the minimum “new” state pension. If you have contributed less than 10 years you wouldn’t be entitled to the “new” state pension. However its possible you will be entitled to pension credit.

Various benifits give you national insurance contibutions but not PIP/DLA as they are not means tested, where as ESA would for example and carers allowance….
