Hi all, my partner will be handing her car back early(all agreed by motability).

My question is how is the car picked up? Do they pick it up from her house or does she need to drop it off anywhere? Or do we have an option to drop it off at a different car manufacture as at the same time I will be picking up a new car for my mother?

      Many thanks

If you’re getting another Motability car then you leave it with whatever dealer you’re getting your new car from. My dad had to return my mums vehicle after she passed and he returned it to the dealer that it came from.

I believe you will have to hand it back at any motability dealership. I would advise taking it to a motability dealership closest to you and not necessarily the one you had it from.

I’d call Motability. You can potentially leave it with the dealership you pick the new car up from, but since that’s a different lease (if i understand correctly, you’re dropping off your partners car, but picking another lease up for your mum) it’d require notice to Motability.

At least i’d double check with them.

When my husband had to finish his lease for medical reasons (licence temporally revoked). They sent someone out to pick the car up. Later when he got PIPed he took the car back to the dealer himself; If I remember correctly he could have had them pick up the vehicle, but would have missed out on the ‘transitional support package’. The taxi fair home used up half of his PIP standard rate mobility allowance. Bit of a kick in the face from the government, that of the couple of times he is allowed to leave the house, one was to hand back the car, that used to allow him unlimited (allowing for fuel) trips out. He was able to go out again several months later after I got my car (which he drives for me), only for both of us to be locked in for 2 years because of Covid.

Thanks Rene yes it’s a different lease, I’ll ring motability and hopefully I/she can drop it off at the Renault dealership (partners car is a Peugeot) which would make things loads easier for me.
