Is it right that my dealer is asking for the ap 48hrs in advance, I’m a little nervous handing over a big sum of money without even checking it over.

They can ask for a deposit but not the AP.  Never paid upfront more than 20 years and don’t plan on ever doing so.

I always worried that they make mistakes with order and then it’s difficult to retrieve the payment from them.

If I was you Jim I’d ring motability Monday and check with them

It is on the day of collection, as per the motability website faq here:

            https://www.motability.co.uk/contact/faqs/when-do-i-need-to-pay-the-advance-payment

I would send the link to the dealer and tell them you a very happy to pay per the above

Problem Nowadays, Is alot of dealerships do not accept cash and will only accept say 1k by card, so often the ap needs to be made by bank transfer. Happened with my last car as ap was too high, plus it had to clear to their account before i could collect the car.

Was on the morning of day i was due to collect though. The dealer did send me a video of the car a few days beforehand, as this was after the 1st lockdown when they was closed and it had been sitting there for quite a while. So i’d say that could be the reason but no harm in ringing mb beforehand.

Our Volvo dealer was happy to take £3500 payment by either debit or credit card (our choice) on handover day. I find it hard to see why any dealer shouldn’t.  Its simple for them to check the money’s arrived.

If they let you see the car before you pay then that wouldn’t be an issue, otherwise wait til you see the car is what you’ve asked for.
