    Ditch

Whilst waiting for my first motability car, ive had to take my private car for its mot and its failed big time and it’s gonna cost me nearly £800 to get it fixed. Am caught between a rock and a hardplace as I need the car to get around. If I only had a couple of weeks left till my scheme car was delivered I would have just left it. But I don’t know when it will be delivered so am gonna have to get it fixed damn ?

@Ditch Sorry to read this. Just not a lot you can do really. Have you got a delivery date yet? if so, when.

£800 is a lot of money to spend on repairs, So what exactly is wrong with the car? Have you had a second opinion on cost of repairs? It is advisable to get more than one quote.

Another option would be (albeit hassle), to check if someone sells a banger for £300 or so close to you with a few months of MOT left.

You’re just trying to bridge the gap to the new car, i wouldn’t care if i had to drive an awfulbox until ours gets delivered.

Yeah, that’s an impressive list lol.

Albeit, kinda surprising that a wheel bearing is so bad that it is likely to break off after 80.000 miles. They obviously don’t last forever, but usually they start with play etc rather than just going from “pass” to “on fire”.

As we said, look around for a cheap beater and scrap the Focus. In germany they say “better to have a bad drive than a great walk”.

@Rene I was thinking of scrapping it and doing that, but someone I know is gonna give me £1600 for it. But if I get it repaired I will still pocket £800 afterwards more than i would get for scrapping it so think its a bit easier doing it this way even though I’ve got to find the cash to get it through the mot. In the last year its had a new clutch, new power steering pump, new water pump, new belts, new drive shaft, new battery, new alternator, new brake pads and a few little bits. So the fella buying it is getting a bargain.

And the wheel bearing was making a loud noise but was only driving local with it

hello again ditch, bobmac here. You might have other reasons as to why not, but sell your mate car for 800 and let him get it fixed, or is selling failed mot against law ?

Hi @BobMac that’s what he was giving me before the MOT failure. He was wanting to buy it off me in September when I told him I was getting a new car. Not sure what the law is, but better to walk away with what am gonna get cos I wouldn’t get £800 for scrapping it.

@BobMac and it’s a lot easier than me getting it scrapped then looking round for a cheap runaround in the meantime.

if it fals an mot, it is a fail and off the rd. even if you have 11 months left. it goes into computer etc and traffic cameras and police will know.

no point in lying about it tbh..
