We don’t often go out of Scotland and to my shame I’ve never been to Wales or Northern Island but I’ve often wondered if the rules are the same, I should say at this point I don’t know what the rules are. I only ever park in a disability space so don’t know about parking on yellow lines etc, so hope to get educated by any experts on this topic.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol. - CreatorTopic

We are allowed to park on single or double yellow lines with badge displayed, up to three hours, apart from loading zones or car parks. Parking meters are down to the respective councils. On street disabled parking with no time limit. Car park disabled parking length down to the shop. Not allowed on private roads.
There’s the info.

Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.November 11, 2021 at 5:39 pm #168865As struth pointed out the main different I know of between England and Scotland is the 3 hour rule where you can only park for 3 hours on double yellow lines in England ( think its the same rule for Wales) while in Scotland there is no time limit. There is no time limit or payment for on street parking meters unless signage says otherwise in England.
I’m sure there are other things but the booklet I have here is for 2015 (newer one in the car somewhere) is titled “The Blue Badge scheme: rights and responsibilities in England”.
Some of it is about restrictions in London but noted while there’s a section about “Travelling abroad” there is no mention of Scotland yet as we know different rules apply.?
Worth noting being the 2015 edition its a EU version.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>London is a whole other story and quite confusing but this is quite a good site if you are going somewhere new</p>

The amount of times I have heard “I will only be 5 minutes” or “I’m just popping in here”.But the best one is “Its after 6 o’clock”.
I am allowed out after 6.My walking isn’t good.Leg and arm not good.Brain and rest of me OK.
A bit respect to disabled areas anywhere would be nice.
(Rant over).
November 12, 2021 at 11:22 am #168929I constantly get abuse from “non disabled” people parking in disabled spaces!
Most commonly at supermarkets and shops where they are not policed. The main shopping centres are fine as there are usually a parking patrol and I have seen plenty cars being ticketed.
I do think there should be a photo taken and shame them as it is totally unfair that disabled people cannot go places and cannot get parked. It is usually the younger generation who cannot walk the extra 50 yards.
Maybe one day they will realise what disabled actually means and stands for.
Rant over!

November 12, 2021 at 11:34 am #168936I will say that it’s one of the most fun thing to do for me, when i’m waiting outside the hospital, nail studio or whatever in a disabled spot, with our badge clearly visible and some obviously not disabled person parks her Land Rover (or Audi) next to me in another disabled bay – just intensely staring at the person, with either an angry or otherwise disapproving expression, maybe a shake of the head.
I usually don’t say anything, only did once where a woman parked her Land Rover across two disabled bays (we occupied the third and last) in front of a veterinaries office. I found that so blatantly disrespectful that i actually got out of the car and gave her a piece of my mind, with the usual excuse that she’s just quickly getting a coffee from Greggs. Of course, other parking spots available, just not the good, comfortable wide ones reserved for disabled people.
Did get a bit mean, telling her that if she gets her head checked out, she might be able to apply for a badge and park legally there soon. That really pissed me off, not going to lie.
And i agree, we absolutely should be able to take a picture of a car in a disabled bay with no badge displayed, for them to be written to giving them a chance to produce the badge within a week or so, otherwise face a parking ticket. This isn’t a “minor offense”, it potentially can cause a lot of pain if someone who has a walking impairment etc has to walk across the entire car park because some bimbo in a Land Rover can’t park her car in a normal spot and needs TWO disabled bays.

Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.November 12, 2021 at 12:19 pm #168946As I am the full time carer for my wife, when I am in the car on my own, I do not park in a disabled space as it is damn right offensive to disabled people, wrong and rude.
I have a theory. Maybe the local council should employ me as a Disabled Parking warden, pay me £0 a year, just expenses and then they would see a huge return but even better, ticket non disabled drivers without a badge and they would soon get the message, park there without a blue badge and you are going to be ticketed.
I think it would only take a year or two doing this and the general public would be aware of this shameful behaviour and wont risk it for a fine of say £100 that could be better spent improving the car parks, increase disabled parking and going towards grants to assist disabled people or to assist with stair lift or ramps for wheelchair users.
Just an idea………………………………….

November 12, 2021 at 12:35 pm #168948I’d do it even without expenses paid for.
Literally every time (literally!) we go out where there’s disabled bays, we find cars that don’t belong there or at least “forgot” to display the badge (benefit of doubt). I’d make them tens of thousands a year just by being able to “snitch”.
I’m not entirely sure if it was directed at me, i of course don’t park in disabled bays when i’m by myself (i don’t go to nail salons). The badge is in my wifes handbag (on my request), so i couldn’t even if i wanted to. Less temptation, since admittedly i have thought “well it would be easier if i just put the badge in the window and pop in” before. Flesh is weak and stuff.

I was just saying that I am not the disabled person and don’t park in a space on my own, where I do know others who flaunt it, parents at my sons school for example, where the blue badge is for the child, not them but one or two do use it when their child is at school.
People these days are so lazy. Even where we live, we have a marked disabled bay outside our house and the amount of tmes I have came back to find a van, car or a truck in the space, angry is an understatement.

November 12, 2021 at 12:54 pm #168952Yeah my bad, thought that was in reference to me saying “parking at the nail salon” (without clarifying that it’s for my wife).
Otherwise, we’re of the same opinion. Apart from the issue that i indeed am lazy too, so instead of just saying “i won’t do it”, i take precautions (by not having the badge in the car on request) lol.
