Anyone else see the ultra long Golf advert on TV last night. IMO confirms my previous view on current ads. Martin Kemp and son in a vivid greenish car(unpleasant to my eyes) demonstrating the rather tasteless ‘nightclub’ lighting effects in the car. Don’t think the ad will do anything to promote VW’ s promotion of quality.

Totally agree. VW Golf ad says, “Buy this car and you’ll be hip/sexy/handsome/desirable/slim” (delete as applicable). It says nothing about Golf 8 being good engineering and a comfy motor which, I think, are the criteria used by most potential Golf buyers.
June 9, 2020 at 9:55 am #114821Seen that ad Sunday and the OH went out of the room when the commercial break started and came back a minute later and after sitting for another minute said “why have you turned over I thought we were watching the film”. It even had me checking I hadn’t by accident turned over to another program.?
Watch a video yesterday about the Mk 8 and the guy doing the video shot down the 8 for its lack of any real switches on the dash with it being a digital cockpit. Must admit while I like digital displays I’m not too over the Moon about controlling a car this way when driving but apparently its been pointed out that the 8 can be controlled by voice but how well that works I don’t know.
End of the day while I love the Golf and had two on Motability unfortunate for me and my disability the Golf doesn’t love me.?
Have a butchers here under the title “too much cost cutting” as its worth a look.
June 9, 2020 at 5:01 pm #114848Currently driving a golf mk7 and after seeing this ad deffo not cancelling my civic sport order for a mk8 golf.
Plus those wheels look like hub caps. The lighting looked cheap and nasty worse than cheap chinese tat and they trying to make inside less useable a volume slider ffs. what actually gets me is the so called celebs who are getting paid to sell the car ain’t gonna be in that golf no way.. They getting paid they’ll say anything they told.. Even some reviews are fake as they selling those cars and will make commission from them..
Everything will be an extra addons like now my golf has no voice but it is on the car steering wheel / no mirror link either. extra for that too… I saw the ceo of vw a while back talking how they plan to create a car with everything on it, so the 2nd owner if they want can pay to activate the options they want.. That the 1st didn’t. $$$£££
Thats another reason I’m getting the honda lots as standard plus from a 1.5l they get 182bhp not 150bhp and the seat is way more comfortable than in my match edition after 15/20 mins It’s killing my back..
I cannot wait till monday when i get the honda, I don’t dislike the golf it drives great but there is so much to dislike. Especally as tech takes over no actual buttons for key things, you cannot adjust the heat till the info system is started or do anything without using it when driving it is not safe.. honda has listened to it customers and for 2020 brought back volume and heater knobs and button shortcuts etc..
June 9, 2020 at 5:10 pm #114849I’m on my third golf and not having another next March I wanna change new Mk8 same shape yet again ! I’m possibly having top of the range a Hyundai Ioniq premium se
June 9, 2020 at 5:47 pm #114851All the car manufacturers are going the same way now in making a car as basic as possible then charging OTT prices for extras, usually as a pack.

Not all just the so called premium brands with seat they the same vag but the different trim levels are very different not many extra can be added at the factory.. with vw in the future the options will be already on the car but you’ll need a code to activate that pack. Like with acc standard on most vw’s but at bmw / merc / volvo etc it’s a grand plus for the driving pack.
With the honda i’m getting there are no interior factory-fitted accessories available for this grade
For me on the scheme it makes no sence to pay extra for a pack unless you intend to by the car at the end of the lease, which i ain’t, so limits the options available to me..
each car i had on the scheme, Has come down to two cars for test drives. not added an extra once. if it’s not as standard and it matters then it’s not a contender.. especally at a grand for acc stop and go

Is that the one with the foot operated handbrake??
June 10, 2020 at 5:50 pm #114940The top of the range premium se had electronic handbrake like on my golf ! The Prius has a foot operated hand break I don’t want that
June 10, 2020 at 9:34 pm #114948Was one i looked at, in a golf myself right now till monday.. been abusing acc So need that low speed follow etc in my next car.
I thought Ioniq EV was the only one at the moment that has / had electronic brake it’s a footbrake, pretty sure that’s what put me off it back in jan, plus the 11.1 secs to 62.. Also price has gone up to crazyness imo, this 1/4 you could get a toyota corrolla 2.0 touring hybrid or the 1.8l still does over 60+mpg prices on them gone way up as well in highest trim level..
Corrolla hatchback in 2.ol has battery in the boot so pretty useless imo.. I decided to get a honda civic 1.5 sport this time mpg can go out the window got my reasons i guess, 182 bhp but boot is big as well… Guess it was also the test drive..
June 11, 2020 at 11:24 am #114969The Ioniq changed to Electronic Brake last facelift around August last year, I remember the conversation with a Dealership when my Tuscan went for a service, one of Forum members was just ordering one then took delivery and loved it. I include a link to that Thread.

June 11, 2020 at 11:33 am #114971Not quite sure Ioniq’s handbrake belongs on this thread !!!
June 11, 2020 at 2:35 pm #114981I wouldn’t be without electronic handbrake now
