I’d be careful trusting the size categories there doesn’t seem to be any logic to what goes where at times as well as Motability making mistakes of course. Motability website is a real minefield using the more advanced filters. I had an HS PHEV as a hire car quite liked it had reasonable gadgetry dunno if that’s changed since of course. I was saying this the other day trying to find larger cars on the scheme is getting harder and harder. Hope whatever you end up with you love it
Ive been on the scheme about 25 years and this is the first time I’ve struggled getting a larger SUV with a reasonable AP that’s not electric. Sadly I think this will be my last lease with them if it carries on like this 😕
February 24, 2025 at 7:19 pm in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298282Sorry, only just seen this. So the MG HS…. I’ve had mine for well over 2 years and 22,000 miles and it’s never missed a beat. Superbly comfortable even on a 340 mile trip and a really lovely drive. The engine is fabulous but it’s not the most frugal of cars although to be fair, it’s big, I’m lead footed and it still gives around 40mpg on a run which isn’t bad. The only down side is the tech. I can live with most things but there are a few little quirks which really irritate me, the useless DAB radio being the most annoying. That said, if they’ve fixed those on the latest version I’d have one without a moments hesitation. If they haven’t, I won’t.
Yes, definitely agree the tech side let’s it down and I do like that side of things which is what’s made the Grandland more appealing. However driveline, I loved the MG on the road where as the Grandland is very sluggish and loud. I have gone ahead and ordered the Grandland but I really don’t know if im happy.

this didn’t come up in my search so im guessing it might be classed as a small SUV
February 24, 2025 at 10:28 am in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298241Yeah its a tuff one. The outlander was a good package for many. Unfortunately Mitsubishi pulled out of selling new cars in the European market in 2020. I guess also the Plugin hybrids on par boot size are a lot more in advance payment. You have said you don’t do many miles 20k in 6 years is an average of 3,333.33 a year. So certainly those with the lowest AP if suitable will help offset your overall cost over the term of the lease over getting another PHEV, even if you get poor mpg. Guess you need an automatic also. Ford Kuga, Nissan Xtrail, Suzuki Swace even though swace it’s an estate all have large boots. As does the PEUGEOT 3008 and I know Barnsley or york dealerships are doing deals on many cars for march / may on the 3008 gt hybid at only £899 ap reduced by £600. Plus if you travel over 2 hours Barnsley will give you a overnight stay in local hotel or £60 towards fuel. I saw this on facebook MB group offers group. Also via the Manager Tim scott.
yeh i have looked at those cars and ruled them out for various reasons. Only other one I didn’t look at was the Mazda but it seemed small and the engine too big.
February 24, 2025 at 10:26 am in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298239MG have introduced a new 1.5 engine and reliabilty is expected to be much improved over the older one. Even Whatcar scored it 4 stars lol. The ZS hybrid+ is available on the scheme to. @DougieB is the one to ask on the HS!
I think the ZS is smaller so probably didn’t come up in my search
February 24, 2025 at 10:24 am in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298238I am on my second CX5 and love it. It has a solid premium feel, minimal hard plastic , only low down out of touch. I’m a big build tall person and never feel cramped and the seats are very comfortable. It has all the features you want or need for day to day enjoyable driving. The current car is my second and neither have had even a minor fault. I don’t know the mpg because, tbh, I don’t obsess about it.All I can say is it doesn’t seem bad based on 45 years of car ownership. For what you get in comparison to others and the good AP , it a great car. Come October, the way things stand, I will either try to extend it or probably end up with my 3rd as no other car appeals with size/spec/ap.
I have ended up ordering the Grandland although I still don’t feel happy. I test drove the MG and it was lively and nippy but just felt the settings for things were really basic and not as good as the other. It’s like I live how the MG drives, but love the gadget side of the Grandland, it’s really frustrating
February 21, 2025 at 11:10 am in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298086i am monitering hybrids as i cant have electric as no chargers nearby and on road parking, i am lucky in that i am on my own and so far do not have scooter or chair so i can get away with smaller suv as i do need higher entry/exit etc due to back and knee issues. one i havent tested yet is the symbioz but it is larger than my current nissan juke. i also like the quashqai epower and the nissan xtrail epower the system is great. i will look at the kona, niro and kuga but they are down the list compared to the others. i get over 50mpg even in the weather recently. still got a year to go on this lease so a lot could change.
Who is symbioz by? I think if the prices keep going as they are im going to have to look at purchasing my own next time. I have such bad brain fog though and having insurance, tax ect taken care of is a lifesaver for me.
I filled in the questionnaire of the new PIP proposal recently and noticed they were asking people’s opinions on if there were more than one company doing cars for disabled, I think it would possibly help keep prices low if there were some competition .. dont know if it will ever happen though.
February 21, 2025 at 11:06 am in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298084I had a CX-5 a few years ago. It was really well put together and felt premium. The MPG was a shocker, maybe that has improved, but mid 30’s was about right. It was comfortable and relaxing to drive. If it was a BEV, I would consider it again.
oh wow that’s really bad. In fairness I don’t use my car a lot .. in the 6 years I had this current one I’ve only just reached 20k .. but it’s usually the shorter journeys that cost more. I wish they would bring Mitsubishi Outlander back again, i have loved every noment of having this car, although it would probably have such a high AP it would be put of reach anyway.

I’ve only got til March 3rd 🙈 I’ve totally maxed out any extensions, I’ve had my current one 6yrs and 3 months
MG HS is currently only available as petrol or PHEV, however MG are launching a self charging hybrid in the first quarter of 2025 so anytime soon. If it comes onto the scheme it sould be cheaper than the PHEV so may be one to consider.
Aghrr I wish it would hurry up! I’ve only got til March 3rd 🙈 I’ve totally maxed out any extensions, I’ve had my current one 6yrs and 3 months!
February 20, 2025 at 9:42 pm in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298060Seat Ateca or Skoda Karoq? I’m 6’5″ and had an Ateca for 3yrs, 1.5 Petrol manual and averaged about 36mpg being heavy footed and doing mainly short journeys. Plenty of room and a good sized boot. Or look at a hybrid, pref. a full hybrid (FHEV) for better MPG. Certainly wouldn’t recommend a Vauxhall though! :p
I’m trying to keep below £2250 so the skodas out. I cant remember why I didn’t like the Seat I feel like ive looked at so many cars my minds a blur .. i think it was to do with how the back seats folded in the back if I remember right, there was quite a big ridge which I would struggle with. I dont get why so many car back seats don’t fold completely flat any more it would give so much more room. I normally have part of the back seat down.
My current outlander is a Phev and so economical, that’s what’s worrying me with the MG that there would be such a big difference in fuel but the lower AP makes it so tempting.
February 20, 2025 at 5:55 pm in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298057What about a Nissan Qashqai? I have really enjoyed my 3+ years driving mine.
I used to have the Xtrail before they changed the shape .. it was lovely even though the gearbox had to be replaced in the first 6 months. I need to have plenty of space in the footwell and below the steering rack due to allodynia and was dissapointed how much room they took off when it had a facelift, the Quashqui looked the same. I get that these sleek designs are the trend, but i prefer them boxy, but still really needs to be an SUV as it’s all winding hilly roads round me. I’m hoping by the time my next lease ends that big chunky boxy cars will be popular again 🙁
