Given lots of chatter on forums about much delayed deliveries on the XC40 Plug in Hybrid, my dealer, who’s been right so far, says are car ordered today would be delivered in October. Probably a delay of a month over the time when we ordered in May but better than other dealers seem to be offering.

That’s only 3 months, which is impressive and incredibly quick in the current climate. Perhaps Volvo has a secret stash of Semiconductor chips or the Chinese ownership has some advantages?

Running around 20,000 a month globally. I don’t know if that’s low for a single model.

              read this earlier re chips.

When will the microchip shortage end?
It doesn’t look as though the shortage of microchips is going to end anytime soon, and almost certainly not in 2021. Infineon has suggested as many as 2.5 million cars could be delayed in the first half of this year, with other estimates of 5 million for 2021 as a whole.

Ford itself has said it expects the production of 1 million of its own cars to be hit by the shortage.

so its gonna take an age; maybe next time the car companies wont just stop ordering them in a crisis

Agreed, it’s not going to get better anytime soon. Volvo seem to be doing better than most though.  They lost a week’s production in June at Ghent because of chip supply, despite which my order came through in under 2 months and, as above, they’re still able to offer delivery in October.

I ordered end of May, and my delivery slot is 14-28 Sep

Gary, sad to say, you may have ordered at the end of May but it’s unlikely your dealer placed the order then.  I ordered May 12th and the car was at the dealers last week.

I ordered on the 8th of June and was told delivery would be mid September and it would be a week 28 build, which I think is possibly this week?
