In the last week this has turned into the worst Christmas I’ve ever had.
6am last Sunday I got a call from my ex-wife, couldn’t understand any of what she was saying/yelling. Eventually my daughter came on, can I come through, one of her cats has been attacked by two Lurcher type dogs. No collars, ID tags, owner could be heard shouting for them but nowhere to be seen. Given the screaming being done by my daughter and ex during the attack there’s no way he couldn’t have known what was happening. One of the dogs went for my daughter who kicked it off, both then ran off round the corner.
Took me about 20-30 mins to get there, by that time the cat had died, not suprising as most of its insides were visible, it had literally been torn open. Daughter was in a terrible state, covered in blood and holding the poor thing wrapped oin a big blanket also covered with blood.
Made the trip to the emergency vets (another 30mins as nowhere near) and obviously nothing they could do. We spent about 45mins there while my daughter and ex said goodbye, by that time my daughter was completely distraught and we found her cat had bit her on the knuckle while she was trying to get to it, her finger was badly swollen and wouldn’t bend.
Off to A& E, over 2 hour wait as it was still full of Saturday nights usual drunken idiots. At which point my daughter looked really unwell and was about to pass out, I went to reception to get someone and was told we’d been called, we hadn’t, three of us were sat in full view of the doorway and nobody had came in or shouted. Eventually saw someone who said she’d check her pulse-ox, heart rate, blood pressure etc. Went off and got the machine but had no idea how to use it, had to wait for a staff nurse to show her, after a couple of attempts the staff nurse did it herself. Elevated BP and heart rate but not too bad.
She then cleaned the finger, put an Iodine dressing on and wrapped it, gave her a tetanus shot and a box of anti-biotics and discharged her.
After taking them home my daughter walked into the house and completely broke down as of course her cat wasn’t there. I know she’s just a cat but she’s been her emotional support ever since she got her and her sister, my daughter suffers from anxiety and PTSD.
My ex phoned the police to report it all, they said someone would ring back Monday to take a proper statement. Sure enough someone phoned and I’m at a loss to what she was told, basically not interested, even though my daughter was injured, the dogs went for her, no collar or ID, not in control etc. etc., and, it turns out they’d done it before, killed another cat abouta month ago. Just to make things worse he said “It’s not a crime, ring the council, dogs chase cats, it’s what they do”
My ex spoke to the council and they couldn’t beleive it, it was most definitely a crime, dangerous dogs. My ex then emailed her MP (Bridgette Philipson) and the PCC, so far, 6 days later, only the PCC’s office have replied saying they will raise the various point she made with Northumbria Police.
I was supposed to be going on a cruise with my daughter last Thursday, she said she was OK to go, but after being on the train to Liverpool for about 5mins she completely broke down, so badly that I had to take her off and get a train back to Durham and back to her mums Of course the cruise has now gone so instead of sailing into Vigo tonight I’m here at home writing this.
As an upshot of all this my ex has now said she can’t go on a second cruise we have booked leaving on Xmas eve as she doesn’t want to leave our daughter on her own. So with nobody else to take in her place or cat-sit for me if my Autistic sone comes that cruise is gone as well.
I’ve tried to claim on my travel insurance for the forst cruise but I need a letter from her GP confirming what happened, I don’t know if my daughter will want to discuss it with her GP as she’s not in a good place right now.
And if I have to claim again for the next cruise being cancelled I don’t think they’ll be very happy with me at all!.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
