    Which Mobility Car

I know I keep going on about Carplay but I feel this is the biggest tech advancement in recent years, most of us have a smartphone and the idea of using all that processing power while it is sitting unused as we are driving seems such an obvious advancement.

I am sure I am not alone in feeling disappointed and surprised that the phone had to be plugged in to use the Carplay and Android Auto, apparently the technology to have wireless Carplay was built into ios 7 and we are now on 13, so the reason it was not made avaialble was the extra cost/technology in making the head units to run the system wirelessly.

Well now we are here, Wireless Carplay (Android Auto to follow) is standard on the new Skoda Scala (above base trim) and it will be across the range on the new Skoda Kamiq when it joins the Scheme later this quarter and in the new Skoda Superb iv, the hybrid due early 2020. It’s not on the recently facelifted Superb – weirdly.

But the big one, for sad tech bods like me, is the fact that Wireless Carplay and wireless Android Auto is on the new (Facelifted) Volkswagen Passat. This means that it will be rolled out across all the VAG cars over the next couple of years – hoorah. No more wires!

There’s always a drive to go wireless (phones, home networks, headphones and more) and I think this is one of those things that doesn’t really need to be. If you’re going to be using the phone pretty much constantly for nav/audio or whatever, having the phone physically connected means it won’t run out of battery PLUS the whole point of having them paired up properly is that you don’t need to use the phone/screen so is it really such a big deal to have it out of the way where it can be permanently connected?

The technology will come with wireless charging ports front and back soon and you still won’t need to physically touch your phone, due to voice control.
