hello long time reader first time posting.

whats with vw and Audi I am due to renew my car and fancied top of the range Tiguan (4motion) so I enquired and to my disbelief the salesman said why do you want this vehicle have you need for the 4 motion  so I phoned Audi  why do you want a quattro is it me or what if I walked in with cash would they ask the same question

I wonder if it’s to do with shortage of components, and their wish to steer customers away from what they can’t easily supply.  In which case nothing to do with whether you are a private buyer or not.

Might be worth asking your partner to give them a call too as a private buyer and see if they get the same result.

Years ago we went to look at a Vauxhall Mokka, and the salesman asked us why we would want the 150bhp version, and we should just take the 120bhp saying we wouldn’t need the extra! Just walked out as it was pants anyway.

Call motability and complain, don’t take any rubbish from dealers

Depends how they are asking, same as phone sales people asking – Do you really need unlimited data?

Its about duty of care for me, they dont want complaints saying that they mis-sold a top of the range car when something else was much more suitable.

Looks like a fair question, why would you want a 4×4 unless you live out of town they are a waste of time and money, just my opinion no offence, could be the salesperson was trying to consider your needs
