I can’t believe, in this time of self isolating, we have far fewer posts than normal. I thought we would be inundated with posts and new members. The opposite appears to be happening, where is everyone and what are you doing to pass the time?

Im here, been taking advanced of the reasonable weather and out redesigning the garden, full make over needed, so string lines everywhere marking pathways etc to making sure it works in practice and not just on paper. I’ve changed it about for times so far, got to decide soon as the string lines are in the way and the lawn will be wanting a trim soon.

                I’m probably here, or somewhere.

Went for a wander up to the church today, so many people around, so busy out there, what are all these people doing….

Queue outside the village ship & everyone was patiently waiting at least 6’6″ apart.

Lots of youngsters on bicycles, some in groups of more than two.

                Joggers.

                Doggers (well, dog walkers).

                Walkers.

Plenty of local traffic, but the A24 is pretty quiet compared to normality.

So, I guess everyone is busy out somewhere is the answer.

I think a lot of folk have been scared to death and are staying in bed.?

I don’t watch a lot of daytime TV at the best of times but for the odd minutes I have watched (broadcast) TV its all doom and gloom. We need to be warned about the dangers and how to protect ourselves and others but having adverts on TV at every commercial break is really doing my head in for sure and makes me want to go out.? Lucky for me I’ve got Netflix and Amazon Prime so can avoid that and noticed last night that I some how missed the last series of The Vikings on Prime so that’s me sorted for a few days.?

May be folk don’t want to use the keyboard on there computers because you might catch the virus from it and yes, that’s just one of the many things I’ve seen from the TV experts ramming their BS down our throats. If you used a computer to post on here in an internet cafe then yes there is a danger of viruses on the keyboard but my keyboard is at home, is used by me, only me and nobody but me and if it has the virus, then its my virus and I’m doomed, doomed I tell you ?and much goes for the car too as no one gets in the car other than her in doors and of course we’ve stopped taking the grand kids out for now.

To be honest I’ve become hooked on ‘Don’t Starve’ – especially ‘Shipwrecked’ and ‘Hamlet’ (Steam games).

I have even been seen occasionally wrestling with the honeysuckle that’s invaded from next door and is swamping the apple tree.  And the buddleia.  And the weigela.  Though, to be honest, the honeysuckle’s winning.

Georgie you seem like the ideal person to answer this question. I have a silver birch tree growing in my garden, 20 feet high. I want to cut it down and plant a large evergreen, and interesting, bush, or a small tree. Any suggestions?

                            Georgie

Oh, Lord!  I am the world’s worst gardener.  Eight black fingers and two black thumbs.  I have killed roses; I have killed periwinkles; I have have even killed spider plants, and they supposedly “thrive on neglect”.  Why do you think my garden’s such a mess?!  The only reason the honeysuckle’s doing so well is because it’s come under the fence from next door.

My sister (a proper gardener) won’t even let me water her house plants when she’s away.  In fact, if I told her about your asking me for gardening advice she would probably get a hernia from laughing so hard.

Plus, there’s a zillion things to consider: type of soil (mine is lowland heath and very acidic – it’s virtually sand), sunny or shady, heavy soil or well-drained . . .

I’d love to help, but seriously – Your garden would become a wasteland within a week.

On the other hand I hate to be totally negative, so here goes: I believe bamboo is very versatile and comes in a range of sizes and colours, though it can spread like wildfire if not contained).  Also fairly low maintenance, I think.  If I could have any small tree I would have a Magnolia tree.  Again, they come in a wide variety of colours.

I do believe – Yup.  You now have the sum total of my Gardening Knowledge.  I strongly advise that you ignore every word of it.

                              🙂

brydo if its a well established tree you may need to check with the council they may have it on a protected list.

bamboo you need to plant it in a large pot in the garden to stop it running wild.

flowering cherry is nice this time of year, you can get weeping versions as well as the usual upright.

That is a pity wmc, its crazy though as we all have more time on our hands. We will likely see a surge when motability announce Q2 prices.

Not sure there is anymore that can be done, I would just remind everyone of the old saying “if you don’t use it you lose it”.
