At this present time my max would be higher if I could get a BEV and save money on fuel.
My max ever paid was about £4000 but I wouldn’t pay that again unless it was a BEV.
obviously there are those that will need adaptations which can push the AP up massively.
To answer my own question I am looking at around £2000.

TheSUVGuyIf the glb premium plus ever came onto the scheme I’d go 3.5k max

ReneSo you’d pay £100 less than for a lower spec GLA? That’s probably not gonna work out.
On topic, £4500 tops is what we agreed on as the limit, but i’m sure that if the correct car comes around, we’d go to £5000. By correct car i mean something like the Enyaq iV, C-Class etc.
September 7, 2021 at 12:22 pm #163692I paid just over 1K for my current vehicle, and that’s about as much as I’d like to pay, considering it retails at around 36K it was pretty decent value, more pennies might be discovered under the mattress if a decent spec Ioniq 5 became available lol.

TheSUVGuyDamn Rene didn’t realise the gla was that expensive for that package, never been on my list so never check it’s prices, just imagined it’d be close to the q3 / xc40 prices (q3 of last quarter)

brydoWith the chip/car shortage and the fact that manufacturers would rather sell to “Joe public” than heavily discounted motability, I predict a rise in APs and a further reduction in car numbers on the scheme. Higher APs could be the norm for the next few years.
Hope I’m wrong.

Mike CooperAs low as possible for the car that best suits our needs.Would never pay big money ( in excess of £1000 ) for a vehicle that in 3 years someone else will benefit from.
September 7, 2021 at 5:48 pm #163734with the gcb at £600 and the wpms auto grant at £660 i suppose £1300 plus any discount from the dealer, last time mini were giving a £500 off so i was able to go up a spec or two.
September 7, 2021 at 5:55 pm #163738It depends on the car and the perceived benefits and value that if offers.

Mm54k. What I’ve paid now for a Tarraco FR4 190 Petrol. Left me feeling rather nauseous. All depends on the car though really.

John Morris£900 we paid in March for the Ateca FR Sport DSG. It went up to £2499 just after we picked it up and now it’s been removed completely. No way would we have paid 2.5k for basically a 3yr rental. £1000 was our limit
September 7, 2021 at 6:32 pm #163741
Ian PriceWe paid £5000. AP £2999+£2000 extras 4 years ago. Not prepared to pay that kind of money again. However if in 3 years time I have saved enough with my EV and the right car was on the scheme. EV6, ioniq. Then I might.

Labradoodleollie£4K with any adaptations and I’d expect a lot of car for that money. Unfortunately a lot of my must haves for disability reasons come on top specs or added extra packs. I get that for the factory it makes more sense to do packs rather then individual add ons but it’s quite annoying. It still works out so much better value then as a private sale.
I’d consider raising the limit for the GLB though, I can dream.

ajnMy old car got written off (parked up?), so we used some of the pay out money on AP, and being the first time guess we got a bit carried away at £1699 including £250 discount xc40, auto pro b4..
JohnMorris I agree paying thousands of pounds to rent a car before payments even start, seems totally unbelievable tbh..???
My next will be an interesting choice..
That’s if there’s anything left by all the doom and gloom we won’t get cars..
Yes it’s been difficult times, guess we’re lucky to still have a choice, lots weren’t..?

bfoandcApart from our very first Motability vehicle where we traded our existing car in and the AP came out of that I don’t think I’ve ever paid over £1,000 AP.
Being as I am I have a Spreadsheet with all possible vehicles and a I work out the total cost over 3 years. I include an estimated fuel cost based on the most accurate MPG I can find. Then I print out a list of vehicles in the order of the total cost and they will form the shortlist. There is a limit of £1,000 AP but if there is a vehicle that goes over the £1K AP ‘barrier’ but whose total cost over the three years is lower than one of the shortlist vehicles then it can be included.
Our latest car the Kona EV Ultimate was a ‘gift’ and will be one of the cheapest vehicles we have ever had.

SueAs cheap as possible, I couldn’t afford the cars that suited my needs starting at just over 1k so have extended the lease instead. If, when the extension has ended and still no cars in my price range or I can’t get help via a grant, hopefully by then I will be able to pick up a cheap car on the second hand market that will suit my needs (my first ever scheme car is getting ever closer to that point second hand)

G J AndersonMy first Motability car was a B-Max. When it came to replacing it in 2018 I’d settled on treating myself to a BMW X1. Then, on a whim, I decided to test drive a Volvo XC40 and fell in love.
When it became available on the scheme, I couldn’t resist. A good friend said I was setting myself up for a fall, as it was likely I couldn’t go back to a non “premium” car since I’d likely be disappointed with one after the XC40. He was right.
In the 3 years since, the XC40 AP has fallen only to rise again, and is now pretty much what it was when I got mine in 2018, although you now get the top spec model (Inscription Pro) for what I shelled out for the base spec (Momentum).
Just under 4k is more than I’d like to part with, but having test driven alternatives, I realise I’d probably miss an XC40.
I don’t think I’d go beyond 4k. We’ll see where we are in another 3 years…September 8, 2021 at 12:59 pm #163816
PaulNever paid more than £2000 in 25 years on the scheme, this time, waiting on a new top spec focus estate for £995 and happy with that what with all the supply problems l.
September 8, 2021 at 1:01 pm #163817
PaulAnd in the past that £2000 has got me much more than it would now, several BMW’s, a v70 Volvo, focus st estate to name a few ?

Lord Muc4 years ago, £3000 on a bmw x1 msport. Wouldn’t spend that money now, as its only benefitting the next owner, with motobility it’s always a personal decision, if you are a high earner, and sure your pip would not be stopped, then, the sky’s the limit. Current car was £1000, bmw gran coupe, with tinted glass, discount and gcb played a part, could even saved £150 if I had the windows tinted privately. Couldn’t afford the ap now, on this car, and the leather seats are a shocking £1150 optional extra!!
September 8, 2021 at 6:24 pm #1638474k is my limit, for a really nice car i really want i would be prepared to keep it for 5 years with that AP amount.
