JojoeThat’s pretty much standard how AA/RAC get you into car without keys, doesn’t usually damage though as they have a very thin, long piece of metal to unhook the lock.

ChrisThat didn’t work the car wasn’t registering the keys even though it was in the car ?

We have the same car (2019 Ateca), thankfully that has never been an issue. One question though, when you got locked out, you said “no phone, no key” – where was the key?
The reason i’m asking, we did find out something interesting about our key, which might be the reason why your car is locking itself/locked you out. Do you have KESSY/keyless entry?
We do. And if i have my phone in my pocket, together with the key, KESSY won’t work. I can’t unlock the car, i assume that’s because the phone signal covers the (considerably weaker) key signal. You said that you had “no phone, no key” (i’m assuming here that the phone was in the car as well), if the key was too close to the phone, it might’ve lost “connection” and locked the doors/immobilised the same way as if you walk away from your car and it doesn’t detect the key anymore.
Ever since i keep phone and key in separate pockets, we never had an issue with locking/unlocking. Just as an alternative explanation, could of course also be an electronic gremlin – just suggesting an alternative.
As for our day, we had a £1200 vet bill today, so.. not the greatest either.

chris@rene i was putting in fuel at the time and seat told me to take it out of my pocket as it could be effecting the keyless part example car not finding key after pressing button so i followed that advise after visting the dealer for the 3rd maybe 4th time and being pushed away with just a new key battery everytime
February 2, 2022 at 12:02 pm #175897
chris@rene i had it where they told me to put it in the cup holder part which when i put in fuel i didn’t take it out forgetting it wasn’t in my pocket in the first place, because of some advise i now have a damaged door and stress
February 2, 2022 at 12:16 pm #175899
ReneThat’s some stupid advice, you obviously need the key on you in case something like this happens (and then use the physical key to open the door).
Have you tried the second key, or does that have the same issue?
February 2, 2022 at 1:20 pm #175906
ChrisYeah it’s the same issue I’ve had to get motability involved as it’s to the point I don’t wanna drive it
February 2, 2022 at 2:25 pm #175911Yeah, in that case, i’d be terminating early. We did terminate our Ateca lease early due to my wifes conditions worsening and the seats now being too church-benchy, but if we’d have to be scared constantly that our car locks us out and SEAT not willing (or able) to do anything about it, yeah..
That’d be reason for us to cancel and order a new car straight next day.

ChrisMotability wants a independent garage to come look at it I don’t know why but I’m stuck atm waiting on them to call and sort out coming to look at it I think it’s because of the damage to the door that was caused by the RAC
February 3, 2022 at 12:01 am #175947Hi Chris,
Sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with your car
if I can offer one bit of advice it’s 100% do not leave your keys in your car mate!
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure if you have keyless entry and leave the key in the car and it locks that you’re snookered and the doors open again , I’m going to test this out tomorrow ( I’ll leave the windows down just incase lol )
If there is some issue with the car locking/unlocking randomly remember if you have the key on you that you can pop the plastic lock cover off next to the door handle to access the physical lock and use the key the old fashioned way to get into your car or lock it
Not that you want to be doing that all the time if you have keyless entry system but it sure beats getting locked out lol
Does Seat offer a similar Mobile Phone App like VW We Connect where you can access your car remotely , check some info and more relevantly Lock and Unlock the car?
I used it in anger for the first time about 5 months ago when I parked at the beach and when I came back to the car after a stroll with the Dog the key fob was a dead as a Do Do rendering the keyless system useless
Worth checking out to see if there is a Seat version of this app
good luck mate!

No, the Ateca uses MIB2, the app only works with MIB3.

Chris@winston I don’t use the app just the key way I’m feeling I hope it goes and don’t come back?
February 3, 2022 at 10:46 am #175966Whoever told you to leave the key in the car, when you get out of the car is a fool and is very bad infomation. Would you leave the key in the ignition of a car without keyless entry or start etc. What would the insurance make of it, if it was then stolen.
As many have suggested you can use the key hidden inside.
Some cars do lock themselves, if you say open any of the passenger doors or the boot and then close it and do not open drivers door and put key in and turn on the ignition. Many years ago this caught me out and had to call green flag and had the same done to the door with an air bag, should bend back easy enough, It was raining stopped to get a coffee thought, I’ll give wing mirrors a wipe, so put coffee, wallet and key down on passenger seat, cleaned window closed door was walking round and i hear it close, oops.
Now i never ever leave the key in the car.
Maybe it’s a faulty sensor or like with my old vw a programing error that happens when certain perimeters are set or met, maybe the system crashes and the default setting is locked.
My golf would not move away sometimes if you had acc on and auto hold at same time only happened at traffic lights with no car infront, so you had to brake to stop, had some update to cars software when it was in for service and it never happened again.
Only way to reset it was turn car off then restart, was crazy. Vw could never help as it never happened to them, when they had the car. So i get how you feel, I think you should contact motability especailly if they cannot fix this problem and tell them what you was told by seat.
Personally i don’t want a car with keyless entry, but it is becoming the norm. More things to go wrong. Central locking works fine and IMO is more secure.
I always lock my car when getting fuel as i seen videos of people sneaking up to the passenger door opening the car and stealing stuff, like a hand bag or a phone and we are not covered for anything left in the car.
February 3, 2022 at 10:47 am #175967sounds like an issue with the fob signal receiver or the electronics have a software glitch that only happens if several boxes get ticked.
i had a skoda where the fob would occasionally open the windows when you were in house. they found an issue and reprogrammed everyones fobs on that model.

Chris@struth unfortunately Seat won’t do anything about it so I’ve escalated it to motability as I’ve had enough of visiting the dealer with the same issue I’m so close to the end of my lease to (may) if my order don’t get pushed back I got the RAC coming tomorrow which is pointless because like seat they ain’t gonna get a log from plugging it in but the bent door should be enough to see it’s a problem that’s not being fixed
February 3, 2022 at 11:44 am #175982Ive only been in a seat dealers’ once that was over 3 years ago when looking for a car. They were not especially helpful although not rude . just didnt seem to know much about motability. had no idea about hoists etc..I passed on them and went elsewhere.
