      Hi,

I’ve had my Tiguan since 29th November 2021 so just over a year, in this year it has developed an annoying fault of the travel assist not currently working and orange triangle showing on the display.

It pings between 30-50 times during a 10 minute journey, so as you can imagine, it is so frustrating to the point driving is affecting my mental health!

All the sensors are clean and it happens more so when the heated steering wheel button is turned on (one of the many reasons I chose this car).

Its booked in to be looked at the earliest availability they have is the 20th February.

I’ve looked on the Tiguans forum and many have said they have had the steering wheel replaced and the issues still persists.

My question is I suppose if the fault isn’t fixable and it’s definitely something I can’t live with for another 2 years, can I change the vehicle on the scheme for something else?

I have very close connections to a local Ford Garage, so a Kuga would be the other option as they are very similar.

I’m annoyed as I love the car other than this issue and I paid over £4,000 AP for it.

      What happens with the AP?

      TIA 🙂

        Thank you,

I’ve spoken to Ford and they have said 3 months for the Spec, they have a few on cancellation which they have kept and will push forward for me.

im not keen on the idea of a hybrid and the lead times are twice as long. The AP is now out of my budget also.

my partners van is manual I’ve had to use that last week and I actually miss driving manual the courtesy car I’ve got is also a manual. So I’m not that fussed although it’s a lot easier and was originally a major factor I would have to sacrifice somewhere and I guess that’s it.

I also heard that the CVT engine on the Kuga FHEV is unbearably noisy ‘possibly worse than the pinging’.

my other half isn’t happy as he loves the Tiguan, he uses it probably once a month. So doesn’t have to live with what I have the past 8 or so months!

They took BMW X1 off the scheme and I don’t like the X2 either.

Sorry – forgot a few things! The dealer is under no obligation whatsoever to refund your optional extras. No harm in asking, but I’d manage your expectations!

Secondly, as you are likely to be in a hire car for many months, I wouldn’t just accept whatever they are likely to give you. The first few times I had to have a hire car I had a Vauxhall Mokka and an MG ZS. Both were truly dreadful cars. The last time I needed a hire car I asked Motability for something better and got a Mercedes GLB. As it happened, the Merc had a major fault (digital dash kept failing), but you get my point!

Finally, I’d make sure that you physically check that all the mobility kit fits comfortably in whatever car you order, rather than just go on measurements. One or two people have commented that the tailgate on the latest Kuga is sloped (unlike your Tiguan, which has a squarer back end) and this causes some people a problem with loading large mobility aids.

I totally understand that and I did say to motability in all honesty I just want to sort a new car for now, the claiming the refund for extras can wait.

My mum who worked in car sales is adamant I’m getting it back ( so we’ll see how that goes) I don’t have the energy to be honest to put up a fight I have enough on my plate.

I have been to Ford with all my bits today to try and extras and fits perfect like my old kuga. I can only get it in the Tiguan where the side cut outs are behind the wheel arches. With no room for anything else in the boot, I’ve tested the room from front seat to backs and I’ve said all along I’ll happily go back to a  Kuga.

Yes I understand with the hire car, something is better than nothing and better than sending me insane.

thank you for your help and advice I appreciate it

You’re welcome. Sounds like you’ve done all the right things and the Kuga sounds like your best bet if you are happy with them, especially if you can get one in a few months. Good luck!
