            Hi Elly

I think th eonly VW that is on tyhe scheme that is made in Mexico is the Tiguan Allspace. The 5 seat Tiguan is made in Wolfburg Germany, which as of last Friday was still in production and they said they will be closing soon but they had no definite closure date (like I say ….on Friday when I called them).

They also said that the advised 14-16 week delivery date is now 20-22 weeks not including any further delays that may occure relating to suppiers problems.

            Hope that helps.

I was also wondering about this if it’d be safe to buy a Tiguan Allspace manufactured in Mexico, especially ones that were manufactured in March as they had a worker tested positive on 25/03 who eventually died after a week and also left his 5 family members in hospital with respiratory problems. The article also mentions that a number of employees have been asked to be quarantined and factory closed since 31/03.

Any virus will be long gone from the car by the time it arrives in this country. We ordered an Allspace in December, and am waiting for an update from the dealer about it. I’ll be quite happy if it takes a couple more months as I’m in no rush to go out.

My order date is September  but considering the soon to be launch of the next gen Tiguan I’m wondering whether I should not bother ordering

Hi John, I’m in Australia but are you saying you’ve placed an order in September or you will be placing one this September? They say short wheel base facelift model might come out at the end of this year. That usually means another year at least before Allspace comes out here in Australia. I don’t about the situation in UK but short wheel base is expected in Q2 of 2021 so I’m thinking towards the end or Q3 of 2022 for Allspace to see some on Australian roads. That’s a long time and there won’t be much discount to be had as well with the new model.

I’m disappointed now, I thought read the thread title and though VW were bringing out a new Golf Mexico. It brought me back to my youth and dreams of a MK1 Escort Mexico.

? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?

I loved my Mk1 1300GT, it looked like a Mexico with the flared arches and quarter bumpers. It might have well been a Mexico as it had a stage 2 engine with the good old twin 40’s. I ran it in those absurd days when people used to jack up the rear end of their Escorts, which I never understood. Mine was slightly lowered with Spax shocks, and due to two different coloured wings and another colour on the bonnet it looked a mess. Add to that the lumpy tickover and anyone would think it was ready for the scrappy, until I put my foot down. I’ve owned loads of different cars since the 70’s only 3 have left me with a lump in my throat when I sold them, this one, my Porsche 944 (I still say we could fit a pram in the back) and believe it or not a Toyota Estima, 5 kids, the wife and a large Golden Retriever were sad the day that was sold.
