MaccaSo I see Volvo have re-appeared, not cheap though ?. Seem to have followed suit with a lot of other EV’s and pitched the pricing right up there.

RogerWilkoPrices are comparable to other battery powered EVs, if you see the thread about second hand EVs, the residuals are dropping hence higher APs

MaccaI get it Roger, it just seems to me that there is a transition period to go through before full EV’s become even more widely available, and wanted on mass, and we ultimately see AP’s start to fall for that product.
I’m not ready for full EV just yet, so will happily run an ICE self charging hybrid.
Thinking about our current XC40 R Design Pro petrol auto hybrid, after using our previous good condition bonus, and haggling an additional discount, we ended up paying £895 for it if my memory serves me well.
Now clearly that is a very different product to a full EV, and we took that before the zombie apocolypse, and the world changed.
Whenever we decide to change that, i’m already budgeting for an AP of £4k, including £1k for the new car payment, and the remainder of the good condition bonus. And thats essentially to stay with an ICE self charging Hybrid. Big difference over our last XC40 deal.
Not a grumble in any way, just an observation of how things change.

If you look at the market, you will see 2nd hand values for all engine types have been historically high to the point there was hardly any price gap between new and 2nd hand. In some cases they equivulent to a new car or had better equipment levels compared to new. This hasn’ been healthy for the vehicle. market.
Not so long ago new vehicles lost there VAT amount as soon as it was driven off the forecourt and depreciated 40-60% over 3 years. This hasn’t been because of new vehicle supply issues., caused 2nd values to rise considerably close or the same cost as a new vehicle. Sooner or later this had to give.
Supply and demand is starting to normalise as the new vehicle markets start to get back to normal production. Rightfully so this will have a knock on effect on the 2nd hand market and will contine tosee reductions over time untill markets normalise to where they once were, with a healthy gap between new and used!
I see know reason why this should have any affect on AP’s. I would also imagine Mb have factored all this in allready.
Perhaps once 2nd hand vehicles have mantained that health gap, we may start to see a reduction in the new vehicle market further pushing prices own in the used markets.
We can’t live in a false world forever as is happening now!

RogerWilkoMacca,
do you find the sears comfortable?
I had an xc60 and the seats were excellent, but sitting in the xc40, they felt a bit skinny and not as comfy?
May 18, 2023 at 5:45 pm #221719I was hopeful when I saw the XC40 was on as well. The C40 with it’s sloped roof just wasn’t quite big enough for us in the back. However, while the C40 base spec is quite well equipped, the XC40 really isn’t.
In reality, for a size for size comparison, the base spec c40 at £5999 falls a little short of the KIA Niro 4 with top range spec, especially when you consider the £1000 saving.

MaccaWell, i’m 6’2″ and chunky but yeah, comfortable enough.
That said if the Subaru Forester that i’m really keen on comes onto scheme, I think the seats in those are far better, plus its a taller SUV which would be better for my height and impeded mobility. Bonus is that in the Subaru both driver and passenger get 8 way adjustable seats.
I’ve yet to check out the X Trail and its ‘NASA Foam’ seats in the flesh, but if the Tekna spec comes on scheme, that could be an option too, having run X Trails previously and found them to be great.
