Volkswagen has expanded the engine range of the T-Cross SUV again, with a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit priced from £24,910
The Volkswagen T-Cross has received a more powerful, range-topping four-cylinder petrol engine. It follows the SUV’s recently added 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and is available to order now, with prices starting at £24,910 for the entry-level SEL variant. Prices climb to £26,810 for the flagship R-Line model.

The T-Cross’s new petrol engine is the Volkswagen Group’s ubiquitous turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI EVO engine, which develops 148bhp and 250Nm of torque.

The engine sends its power to the front wheels and, unlike the rest of the T-Cross engine range, is offered exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen claims this new 1.5-litre engine gives the T-Cross a 0–62mph time of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. Also, the new unit makes the T-Cross only marginally less efficient than the lesser-powered 1.0-litre TSI model, with economy and emissions figures of 44.1mpg and 119g/km of CO2 for the 1.5 compared to the 1.0-litre variant’s 44.8mpg and 114g/km.

Standard equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, a handful of USB ports and an eight-inch infotainment system. The more expensive R-Line variant adds 18-inch alloy wheels, Volkswagen’s R-Line exterior styling pack and a 10.25-inch digital instrument binnacle

Another VAG product due to get the kangarooing engine ?.

I don’t understand why they don’t just use the 35 TFSi 2 litre engine from the A4/A5. It has the same power output as the 1.5, a little more torque and similar effiency.

Having driven an A5 loan car for a few days while our Q3 was in for a new satnav, I can say it’s an absolute peach.
