Under 25s and EVs

Given the push to EVs it’s really sad and pathetic the offering to under 25s

      A fiat 500 116bhp

Berlingo SEVEN seat XL version is an option 134bhp

Combo life but only the lower spec one mind and it’s just a Berlingo anyway.  134bhp

The stupidly priced  Mokka that was free a few months ago now 3 grand.

It’s really sad to see that the Uber cheap Dacia Spring a mere 64bhp, small car low powered EV so no stupid acceleration and aimed at youngsters is not an option due to group 25 and the cut off being 21.

The Citroen eC3 another one aimed at younger drivers group is 22 so one group too high. The EV has 12bhp more than the petrol but the petrol version is a 1.2 turbo unit.

So an under 25 can drive around in a Combo life/Berlingo and Cs even have the 7 seat Berlingo, but can’t drive a 5 seat smallish hatchback.

It’s high time MB took a look at its offerings and policy towards EVs and younger drivers. Especially when companies specifically bring out an EV that doesn’t do stupid 0-60 times and it then gets put out of reach anyway.

I totally get why an under 25 can’t drive a lot of these EVs altho I don’t agree with it completely but when you have the more “sensible” options it’s sad to see insurance putting them out of reach

I have put this in writing to MB I’m sure I’ll get fobbed off but at least I had my say I guess. Yes I may have a vested interest in the under 25s as my youngest is awaiting a pip decision (got awarded dla over christmas now waiting on pip transition as he turned 16 in August so was bit of a mess their end) and my eldest is 18 and passed his test so could drive his brother around.

You will get replies from old farts like me saying, back in the day . . . or when I was a lad . . . I had 63hp in my Ford Escort mkII. It was fine for getting around, but did struggle up the hills on the old A30 to Cornwall.

Must admit, it never could hold the speed going up a hill!!

As for Motability prices, you’ve got to grab the price when you are happy with it. I have seen them unrealistically rise and it is so frustrating. I hope your kid can find a car they are happy with. And I’m sure they’ll be 25 in no time at all.

Same situation here with an under 25 motability customer in the household, but there are so many cars to choose from, while he would consider an EV I have taken the line of that’s for sometime in the future for him. Regarding why? of course as you say its insurance related, and even if we were not motability customers the same restriction would apply for most but it would be financial, there is no way on earth my son would have an Audi A3 if he were not a motabitity customer, the insurance would be a crazy amount. Frustrating yes! By the way I agree about the Vauxhall, its a nice car but AP is to high.

My son is under 25 so cannot drive my motability car.  The company he works for often hire cars for jobs which he does. He has driven quite a few cars, some Ev, which on the motability scheme he wouldn’t be allowed. The thing is the companies insurance is Direct Line who don’t have a problem with his age.
