      Hi all,

As some of you may know, i ‘won’ a place in this years London marathon. I took up running a little over a year ago, the full story of how it came about can be read on my charity page –

      https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TrevHunt

I don’t normally raise money for charity, 1st time for as long as i can remember – but this is a tough challenge and if a few quid can be raised for Mind to help raise awareness, and help people suffering from this terrible illness, then that has to be a good thing. I suffer from mental health problems myself, as do other members of my family, unfortunately i lost my grandad and brother to it. So it is something i have a very strong connection to.

If there is anything you can give, no matter how little, it is very much appreciated, and the link will stay active until marathon day – Sunday 28th April so donations can be made at any point up to then.

I believe there will be a tracking page and/or app available nearer the time, so if you wish you can see how I progress through the marathon on the day. I don’t collect my race number till the day before, so will update this thread with the info when i have it for anyone interested.

More about the charity Mind can be found here – https://www.mind.org.uk/about-us/

      Thank you

That was a first – marathon training in the snow – felt like a scene out of a Rocky movie! LOL

I’ve made a small donation to help Trev (one of our great moderators) on his way and encourage others on this fantastic forum to do the same.

Trev – read your story on the site – truly inspirational. I wish you all the best.

Thank you so much for your support and donation Glos, it really is appreciated.

It took me a while from winning my place in the London Marathon to deciding that I should try and support a charity – as you have read it meant me opening up about my personal life, which i was quite hesitant to do. But the support i am receiving and knowing the money raised will help others, makes it worthwhile and was the right thing to do.

I’ll be in London on my own for that weekend as Mrs Trev will be unable to travel. I should get my race number from the last week in March, when i do, i’ll post it here with a link to webpage so you can track me live in the race if you wish.

                    Thanks again Glos

Just made a small donation there Trev, it all adds up eh

You’ve smashed through your target and I’m positive you’ll smash the marathon on the big day

I wouldn’t be able to do that 20 years ago never mind you being nearly 60 ?

Seriously though it’s a fantastic challenge you’ve set yourself and I’m sure this funds raised will go to help the people who need it

                        All the very best mate

Thanks so much Winston, I really appreciate your support – even at 1am in the morning! lol

To know i have people backing me in this way helps push me out in the cold, wet, and windy training days – and will spur me on when times get tough on race day, helping me to get across that finish line.

As i say on my page, i won my place in a competition, so didn’t have to support a charity, and don’t have to raise a minimum amount. But for all the hard work the training is, a course of 16 weeks, It is nice that some people will be helped with the money that you guys are sponsoring me.

Can’t wait to being back the medal for you all.

                          Thanks again Winston.

No problemo at all Trev, and a medal is the least you deserve for the effort involved  all that training etc

I’m rolling my eyes at the prospect of having to take the dog out on his last walk in an hour or so, that’s a 20 min stroll round the block

So absolutely nothing but big respect to you for all the effort involved getting you to where you are now mate ??

LOL Cheers Brydo, thank you I really appreciate your support.

I’m not exactly healthy at the moment – got a letter from my consultant just this morning confirming a diagnosis of a epigastric hernia, and a divarication of the rectus abdominal muscles – managed to go too mad with upper body exercises! But they don’t affect my running, and consultant is happy to postpone surgery till after the marathon, so all good.

My diet has changed, more carbs in the evening, and protein at lunch – lost 4lb in weight, which is not an easy thing to do when training for a marathon as your body cries out for calories to replenish energy levels used in the run – that’s my excuse, and i’m sticking to it! LOL

I’m sticking to an ‘improver’ training plan, rather than a ‘first-timer’ one, so must have a good level of fitness – if i stay on-plan i should run it in under 4hrs 30mins.

End of March i will get my running number, which i’ll share on here with links to a website and app, so you can follow me around the course if you wish. I have a chip on one of my shoes and there are activation points every 5km of the 42km course, so when i pass each one it will show in the app.

Trev I take my hat off to you and you have my best wishes for the coming months. Please don’t over do it as you don’t want to give yourself physical problems after the run. I will certainly follow you during the run, no doubt about that, and I hope you are happy with your final time.

I wouldn’t put any pressure on yourself time wise as just completing it is an absolutely massive achievement.

                                    Best of luck

Of course Brydo, had injuries last year following a training plan 1st, and listening to my body 2nd – learnt the hard way on that one. And yeah, but it’s nice to train to a finish time, and if training doesn’t go well, like you say to finish it will be an achievement.

Got my first Half Marathon 4 weeks Sunday, so that’ll be a good indicator of where i am. 6 weeks later is London.

Purchased my train ticket today, that was the last thing as already booked the hotel, so with all that done can just concentrate on the training.

As i mentioned on your other thread, please pass on my best wishes to Mrs Brydo, and that she’s treated fully and well so she can come home soon.

Smashed it today, longest run to date – 17 miles and run it quicker than i did on my 2 previous 16 mile runs, so things are improving in both areas – must mean training is going well.

Not sure what i’ll be like tomorrow, thankfully it’s a rest day.
