      hi all,

i cant do holidays where walking is required lol. i know i should get a scooter or something.

so i quite like cruises i dont have to get off the ship if there too much walking required i can bimble about the ship as theres always somewhere to stop and sit a while and on the whole thers always someone to chat to.

the only drawback apart from the cruise companies royally shafting single travellers with 100% supplements is the cost of travel insurance, until i was diagnosed with spinal stenosis i had 2 health conditions osteoarthiritis and high blood pressure and i could get an annual policy for around £200. i go on queen anne in october jst after my current policy expires and ive been doing the usual searches on the comparison sites etc and some of the sums are eyewatering. i tried for worldwide as i fancied visiting the carribean one last time but as some of the islands are usa you need the highest grade. sums of over £2500 are regular quotes.

its almost as much as the holiday costs.

also have you noticed theyve split the destination grades there are now 2 europes, one that includes turkey cyprus etc and one that doesnt so be very careful to check you get the right cover for where your going.

any tips from anyone greatfully received.

at the moment the cunning plan is to convert my nationwide bank account to one that bundles a bunch of insurance and car rescue for £18 per month and it includes worldwide cover for free plus a £250 extra annual fee for my health conditions so worldwide cover for £500ish.

      any better ideas??

Compare The Market got me a “decent” range of quotes.  Last year for multi-trip Europe and Cruise Cover Admiral were about £185, this year they Jumped up over £500, Tesco and Post office were about £350-£450.

For  multi-trip Worldwide inc USA and Cruise they wanted almost £1500!!! CTM found me a quote of £293 for the same amount of cover.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Well just to say, I can’t get cover be cause of my health conditions. So stuck in blighty. It’s fair to say that is not necessarily a bad thing. But I would love to travel elsewhere, like Canada.

i am getting 200 ish for europe but worldwide to cover usa etc is crazy 600 up to 3000.

the nationwide bank fix is looking the best as thats worldwide and a decent cruise cover for missed ports etc.

so i reckon i will wait for the current policy to expire and upgrade the bank account. it may work out as i may leave motability this time as i am probably retiring by xmas so may just get a cheap runabout as i wont need to go to work every day.

Make sure your conditions are covered by your Nationwide account or if any additional premiums.

My parents were with Nationwide and a premium was required for my dad.

We have a bundled account with RBOS, Mrs Joe wanted to go to New York and they wanted to charge her an extra £600 just for a 5 day trip, it was cheaper to get a single cover policy from another company. Check the banks policy will cover your existing conditions, you’ll probably find it’s not a great policy.

because of medical, cannot get insurance at all. They just stop the form and say “we cant insure you”.

But still do the holiday in Europe, Spain, Greece, Italy. Just use the EHIC card, you get medical attention if required.

ive checked with nationwide/aviva the account costs £18 a month and if your fit and healthy the policy is included. i had  to fill out a questionaire and because of conditions i would have to pay an additional £250.00.

but thats for worldwide annual cover including cruise cover. the cheapest worldwide quote ive had so far is £600. so  the nationwide is £100 cheaper. i will keep looking and comparing my current policy runs till oct 19th and i dont go away until the 26th so theres no rush. i may get european cover from oct as my next 2 holidays are european at the moment. but i fancied another look at the carribean when i retire hopefully before xmas. and book something for the summer.

Yup, Nationwide here with additions as well.

I had to use them in anger when I got epididymitis whilst in France. They were very good.

Also used their breakdown cover whilst in Europe in my private vehicle. 20 miles over the border in to Southern Ireland, or just Ireland! Also, very good.
