Time between signing for new car and PIN letter from Motability

      For those who have ordered and signed for a new car the past month, how long has it been between signing the dealer’s paperwork and you getting the PIN letter from Motability.

      I asked as normally this has only been a matter of days before now but I signed on the 4th of July and had nothing, but ringing Motability the week before last they said they had a problem with the DWP.

      This turned out to be false and was more than likely to have been a computer error but I don’t really know but after so say fixing that error and everything being OK with the DWP (not there was anything wrong in the first place) at that time I was told there might be a problem with my driving licence but they would get back to me if that was so.

      Last week while on holiday and 3 weeks and 2 days since signing I had a phone call from my dealer asking if I could ring the DVLA to give permission for Motability to look at my driving licence data. I ring DVLA and give that permission then ring back Motability asking them to ring DVLA to sort out the problem they have whatever it may be and I waited on the phone while the Motability guy went off and checked, he comes back 5 minutes later and says everything is OK with DVLA and that they just need to do one finale check with RSA insurance and that would be done within 6 hours and my car would be fast tracked for ordering.

      I was hoping the paperwork would come through this morning but nothing, so just hope their fast tracking really does mean just that and I get the letter Monday, near on 4 weeks since signing.

      Who needs hold up’s with WLTP when we have Motability and why is it the dealer ringing me to fix the problem and not Motability who’s problem it actually is?

      I’m starting to get to that point where I say shove it, I’ll just stick with the car I’ve got even if I do need something more suitable.

        Scratch my thread here, just had a look at the Motability “check your order” page and noticed it’s changed to saying “order with your dealer” so looks like something is moving.

        Something else I noticed is where you have 3 checks on the checker with number 1 being “Received”, number 2 being “Eligibility” and last but not least number 3 “Accepted”, my order was accepted according to the checker a week after ordering the car but it was a tick that was on a white background but now it’s a tick with a blue background.

          Hi Chris

           

          Although I ordered my car with the dealer on the 2nd July they could not process my order with Motability till the 24th as that was the earliest date an order could be placed as I am currently in contract with them on my VW Sharan.

          I got a phone call from my dealer yesterday stating the order had all gone through with Motability and he said I should receive my paperwork with PIN probably end of next week beginning of the following week.

          I know of someone that ordered a car with Motability and their paperwork was with them in 11 days

          Is your current order on a car that is being built or is the dealer sourcing current stock?

            Mine took 2 weeks to arrive-seems about right to me.

              Yup mine took about 2 weeks to arrive too, but if it says accepted on the motability site then your all good, but if your worried about anything or just have a question best to just give them a call they will always help you.

                From the Motability website

                 

                Will I get any confirmation of my application?
                Yes, we will send you a letter confirming details of your order including your PIN number. Please keep the PIN safe as you will need this on the day you take delivery of your new car. This letter will usually be sent within two weeks of an application being accepted, however if you have not received a letter within this timeframe you should contact your car dealer, or WAV supplier.

                  Thanks for coming back guys but I hope it’s all sorted now and should get my paperwork through the next couple of days.

                  Thinking back now to the day I was in the dealers showroom signing up I did notice the photo copy they took of my driving licence was not too clever so maybe Motability could not read it and that’s why they passed it back to the dealer and I’m the one stuck in the middle not knowing what’s going on. Does not explain the DWP fiasco though.

                  Another thing is the dealer only copied the front of my driving licence but the DVLA codes that tell the authorities what adaption I need in any car’s I drive is in those codes on the back.

                  If I didn’t know any better or you could say it’s the cynic in me is thinking that maybe Motability where just giving me and the dealer a bit of a round around, the dealer for offering a discount on AP and me for accepting it. LoL

                  Still all sorted now, I hope.

                    Hi Chris

                    Did you fill out a form that asks details of each driver and their driving licence details. This is the form that gives Motability the permission to approach the DVLA and enquire about your licence.

                      Hi Newfie

                      I can’t remember filling in a form of that like and nothing like that in the paperwork I signed at the dealer that I have a copy of here.

                      They just had that photo copy of my licence so this looks like where my hick-up lays.

                      Yet another thought has come to mind and that is when I decided to rejoin Motability after leaving in January this year I owed them 5 weeks back payment and to cut a long story short when I paid it off I asked them when I sign up for another car do I use my old Motability customer number and they told me yes I do however, when I did order the new car the dealer said I have to sign up as a new costumer and I assume that broke any data permissions that I gave to Motability in the past.

                      Just a thought.
