Popped in to one of our local Ford dealership, we are in a position to place an order, we interested in a Ford Kuga FHEV, we asked about can we arrange a test drive, answer no, come back when you are ready to place an order with you licence entitlement letter, we then can arrange a test drive, charming?
We asked will it be the facelift model, no Ford have cancelled it until 2024.
We asked factory fitted towbar, reply £850 ?, we have checked Ford site £600 ?
I will try the other Ford dealer

Hope you find a better one but the problem may be that it’s a Ford dealership. And you probably made the mistake of mentioning Motability.

April 24, 2023 at 5:23 pm #220000I would of told them stick it where the sun don’;t shine and walked out and complained!
Have you another Ford dealer nearby you could request a test drive ?
April 24, 2023 at 6:11 pm #220002I can try Bristol Motor in Stafford, looks like Hodson Ford in Penkridge obviously don’t want my business.

April 24, 2023 at 6:17 pm #220004May be worthwhile ringing before you go – see if they have ne you could test drive
April 24, 2023 at 8:41 pm #220016Dreadful. I would go out of my way to avoid dealerships such as that. They don’t deserve our business.
April 24, 2023 at 9:39 pm #220021From what my saleswoman told me there are not a lot of FHEV’s about to try, did they have one in stock?
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
April 25, 2023 at 8:21 am #220030The Motability guy at our local Ford dealer was there for 15 years. Very knowledgeable and knew all his customers even if you hadn’t seen him for 3 years. Always arranged a test drive and kept you updated. He retired last year. It’s all about finding the right dealer.

The last time a sales rep spoke to me like that they got a coffee (accidentally) knocked all over their desk and lap!
I can be very patient but I don’t suffer fools.
Find another dealership and check ahead.
April 25, 2023 at 8:37 am #220033In 2017 our local Ford dealer Furrows Oswestry we absolutely brilliant, when we move back to Stafford, unfortunately they are 80 plus miles away, Bristol Street Motors in Stafford took over the Motability servicing and picked up and return our car, we would have gone to them first but the parking is a nightmare.

April 25, 2023 at 8:42 am #220035I used to park in McDonald’s, grab a coffee and pop round the corner from there.
April 25, 2023 at 8:44 am #220036Is it still on the roundabout at the end of Grey Friars?

Parking is a major issue for us due to Mrs Joe using a wheelchair, some dealers put new unregistered cars in the disabled bays. The Ford dealer we used would cone off the disabled bay when we had an appointment booked.

Yeah, the wife is schedule for a hip replacement, she is struggling to get out of the outlander, but found the Kuga a lot easier, yesterday we received a letter for a pre meds on the 18th May.

We have the same issue. Our previous two VW dealers permanently had demonstrators in disabled bays and we’ve noticed it in many other dealerships that we’ve visited over the years. Thankfully our current dealership (BMW) don’t do that.
April 25, 2023 at 4:50 pm #220088I have sent an email to Bristol Street Ford Stafford lets see if they reply.

April 25, 2023 at 6:03 pm #220099Sounds like their head office has called, which I believe is in Gateshead about 15 miles from South Sheilds.
Is worth test driving the 48v mild hybrid to get the feel of one?
May 3, 2023 at 4:29 pm #220576Popped into Bristol Street Motors Ford in Stafford this morning, the Motability salesman could not have been different to the last Ford dealer in Penkridge.
Answer all our questions towbar Ford list price £625, not £850 as last dealer, had a good look round (as we tow a caravan) notice a full size spare wheel will fit in the boot. I asked about booking a test drive, reply have you got your licence with you if so you can test drive straight away.
The model we tested was the Kuga ST X PHEV (plug in hybrid) the battery had very little charge left however on the long out of town test drive recorded just over 71 miles, we initially were interested in the FHEV at £2650, but really impressed with the PHEV, unfortunately the AP is just over £5,000, we don’t know what to do.
Ford Kuga PHEV were over £6000 + last quarter will they drop again in the next quarter, other manufactures are introducing more modern up to date models, the Kuga is beginning to show it age.

May 3, 2023 at 4:39 pm #220578I’m very pleased you have had your faith in Ford Dealerships restored.
I’m sure you are aware that the FHEV has a braked tow weight of 1600kg, the PHEV 1500kg. (Earlier Cars were only 1200kg so don’t be confused if you read reviews)
May 3, 2023 at 4:47 pm #220579Wow talk about chalk and cheese!
The CVT in the PHEV is a little better according to various car magazines.
I remember you saying economy tanked in your Outlander – would the FHEV be more economical when towing?
Would you make up the adittonal £2400 AP in fuel costs having the FHEV over the PHEV?
Alot depends how many miles you do towing compared to pottering around town I guess
Looks like you have some workings out to do mate 🙂

Our caravan is 1500kg, if only the AP on the PHEV was a bit low, I could go for the ST version but I like the toys on the ST X, just greedy really.
