Can’t argue with the value here. We’re on holiday from today just driven to York car had 36% left stopped at the Designer Outlet where Tesla is and joined for a month at £8.99 which took the price to 37p/kwh which blows everyone elses rapid chargers out of the water.
Charged to 95% no one waiting 10 free chargers and by the time I walked back it was at 95% lol.
£16. 75
Hahaha feels almost like theft at that price vs say Instavolt and even BP with the motability discount.
Off on the Ghost Bus tonight 👻

Why would you pay the membership fees? Unless you are going to charge some 60kW a month using public stations.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)July 3, 2025 at 4:31 pm #307782Started using tesla on our first trip to france, and yes you have to charge at least twice a month on a tesla supercharger to make it work. However on the long trip. Holland, Belgium and france we go tesla to tesla and on average save £50 one way on the trip compared to our old diesel.
As for savings against other charge operators well we paid as little as 23cents per kw in Holland and on average 32cents per kw in france.
Distance travelling is roughly 800km.
So it’s a no brainer, mugs pay the other charges. 70 _ 90+ cents a kw on other charge operators.
But you will always get the ones who say why pay the €8.99/ £9.99 for membership when you don’t have to pay any membership for the others.
Let em be i say, just keep getting cheaper recharge and laugh all the way to the bank.
July 3, 2025 at 4:58 pm #307783Yep always use Tesla with membership when we go to the Southwest on holiday, we cancel the membership as soon as we get back. We always use Gloucester services north and south, Lifton on the Devon Cornwall border and Camborne. Have noticed Camborne starting to get busy with none Tesla, got a feeling that’s going to revert to Tesla only.
July 3, 2025 at 5:04 pm #307784Why not to use IONITY with their PASSPORT? I think it is much cheaper. I used it once in France, but then realised the hotel we stay in offers free charging, so stopped paying for the pass. My understanding in continental Europe it is a normal practice to offer free charging to the guests.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)July 3, 2025 at 5:17 pm #307785Interesting subject.
I very rarely have to charge other than at home – but occasionally I do need to.
At which point I find myself planning probably more than I need too – I’m hesitating to use the word paranoia
But for me because it is so rare – speed of charging – convenience on route are often more important than occasional cost.
I don’t like to feel ripped off anymore than anyone else- but it isn’t always just about cost – if I was driving 20k a year and mostly away from home I’m sure I would take quite a different view – but my point – it is all about that balance – how often – convenience speed reliability availability and cost.
July 3, 2025 at 5:55 pm #307786I charge at home 98% of the time. When out I use Electroverse through Octopus, which, with a 10% discount works out at 69p per kWh. I was at a well know burger eatery and decided to hook up to one of their chargers, when I saw 87p per kWh. Although I only wanted an extra 30 miles, as a precaution, I unhooked and went to my usual place. £8.99 a month and 37p, is a good deal for anyone who cannot charge at home.
July 3, 2025 at 9:28 pm #307797I do just over 20,000 miles per annum. My office is 45 miles each way, so I don’t need to use public charges, unless I travel abroad or to my kids unis (Cardiff / Newcastle). I don’t understand the prices of £0.80 per kW when it costs them significantly less – it’s a simple greed.
Electroverse is a great solution- although I have left Octopus and notified Electroverse, my account still have a discount.
To pay membership for Tesla, when you drive a different car – if you don’t mind, I want to ask you to share your charging experience, when their station is full. There’s a wonderful book, written by British anthropologist (apologies cannot recall her name): “Watching the English”. She has to add a new chapter, dedicated to charging non Tesla vehicles on Tesla stations.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)July 3, 2025 at 9:39 pm #307799Given Elon Musks apparent fall from graze – personally I’m indifferent – the fact that Tesla chargers are increasing whilst sales appear to be dramatically falling – I suspect there will be more chargers available and maybe at an even better deal – such is the fickle world of politics however rich and powerful 🤔😳
July 4, 2025 at 12:04 am #307807I’ve got Tesla and Ionity subscriptions. Might cancel them over the winter but could also keep one just for the occasional road trip 🤷♂️
I originally only had Ionity because their chargers usually have better space around them for wheelchair users and are faster with 800v architecture, however down in Cornwall and Wales and up at Ft William and Inverness then Tesla have chargers whereas Ionity don’t.
When I say Cornwall then yes I did use the ones at Bodmin but I also used the Tesla at Camborne.
July 4, 2025 at 9:04 am #307801I remember paying in excess of £50 to fill up my non electric cars in the past. That was week in and week out.
I have had an electric car for 7 years and always charged from home for what feels like pennies.
So what if I have to pay 80p per KWh once in a blue moon.
How soon we forget.
July 4, 2025 at 10:34 am #307822I to have been, mostly electric for six and a half years – the first 3 1/2 being a Prius PHEV – that would do a regular 30+ miles before petrol cut in – meaning 70% of my yearly miles were electric and cheap – I currently have a Kona – am with OVO and ohme – so very cheap home charging – and so – yes – occasional 80p but convenient top ups are more than covered by home charging.
July 4, 2025 at 10:01 pm #307873If you drive a lot of miles and do a lot of trips away from hope or even cannot charge at home you can get a Tesla subscription for the whole year for £90 well worth it. My nearest one is as cheap as 23p a kwh from 00.00 to 4am. I also look at doing a trip to Sicily compared both Tesla and Ionity and Tesla was only 1 stop that was not a tesla in 1800 miles there. I have used them but without a sub and at peak time paid 56p but it was only 51p last time. while other prices rose tesla dropped there’s but did increase the peak hours slightly.

July 6, 2025 at 7:48 am #307938I understand the 900 million allocated by the last government for charging infrastructure over the next 5 years has now been reduced to 400 million – there are so many people that might consider EV if there was more on street charging at a sensible price – all seems a bit mixed thinking and in the bigger picture such a small saving!
July 10, 2025 at 4:46 pm #309403Just pay the £90 and forget about it. Its my go to for travelling. Only once I have seen all stalls filled, but wait 10 mins an one becomes free.
Quickest charger I had was Tebay Northbound, chucking the power in a at 200w.
