This is the very basic trim. I am not sure it’s a good deal, to be honest. Have you compared it to the standard trim, which I think they call premium now?

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)April 15, 2026 at 6:27 am #353303I would highly recommend booking a free 1hr test drive via Tesla app, it’s done completely via the app on your phone and no human intervention at all, you turn up and your phone opens the car and works as the key, get an hour to test it out and you just plug back in after an hour. I found it great, has everything you’d ever need spec wise and couldn’t justify and extra £181 per month the go to the 1 step up premium model, I think the main differences from memory was full leather rather than 1/2 leather, ambient lighting, heated rear seats, a touch screen in back, as it’s a second car, it wouldn’t be stuff that would bother me, certainly not at the price per month for them.

Its not that good of a deal, its the base model, that price per month is a £3,187 deposit. If you changed to 24 months instead sure you get down to £197 a month with a £2,563 deposit, but this doesnt include insurance and is only 8,000 miles. If you bump it up to 10K miles, its £207 a month with a £2679 deposit. You’ve got to remember insurance costs on it though which will bring it up to £68 minimum (thats with me having a 3 years NCB), also the fact that you’ll have to buy a charger, or go out and pay additional for public charging.
April 15, 2026 at 7:46 am #353309Ah ignore me as I didnt see you said a 24 month with 1 month deposit which £495. But the other points still stay, and I would say something like the Kia EV3 is a much better option here espeically the air which is £299 for an advance payment.
April 15, 2026 at 8:01 am #353310You can adjust the terms to suits your needs, just select personal contract hire and then can adjust initial deposit to 1 month if that’s your preference, that makes it £295 down and £295 x23 for 8k miles. If you want 10k miles it changes to £309 down and £309 a month. Insurance is just personal circumstances and where you live etc, it’s only £353 for the year for me. There are no servicing costs either in the 2 years, only thing would maybe be a none repairable puncture as the factory tyres are good for 30k miles plus I’m lead to believe.
The £200 deposit you pay when ordering the car to Tesla also gets refunded to you once lease contract signed.
I think you’ll struggle to find a better value for money personal lease deal comparing list price of car against what your paying over 2 years.

April 15, 2026 at 8:27 am #353313Its quite good. Base model 8k miles 250/month 3 year, 3k down.
Insurance is £750 which is about same for most EV,s already have a home charger.
Only real problem is getting in and out, and the minimalist nonsense..
But a test drive would sort that out.
April 15, 2026 at 8:30 am #353314But lets compare it directly, Kia EV3 Air (Motability)
Upfront and fixed costs
Advance Payment: £299
PIP payments
Year 1: £320/month = £3,840
Year 2 (3.8% increase): £332.30/month = £3,987
Total PIP over 2 years: £7,827Total cost before charging
£299 + £7,827 = £8,126This includes insurance, servicing, breakdown cover, and 20,000 miles.
Tesla (Lease)
Base lease costs
Monthly: £295
24 months: £7,080
Deposit: £495
Base total: £7,575
Additional costs
Insurance (estimate): £60/month = £1,440
Home charger: £500
Total before charging
£7,575 + £1,440 + £500 = £9,515Charging costs (8,000 miles per year)
Tesla (5.3 miles per kWh)
Home charging (8p per kWh)
£121 per year
2 years: £242
Total: £9,515 + £242 = £9,757Public charging (47p per kWh)
£710 per year
2 years: £1,420
Total: £9,515 + £1,420 = £10,935Kia EV3 Air (4.6 miles per kWh)
Home charging (8p per kWh)
£139 per year
2 years: £278
Total: £8,126 + £278 = £8,404Public charging (69p per kWh)
£1,200 per year
2 years: £2,400
Total: £8,126 + £2,400 = £10,526Final comparison
Home charging
Tesla: £9,757
EV3 Air: £8,404Public charging
Tesla: £10,935
EV3 Air: £10,526I would say with public charging a hybrid or somehting on the scheme would be even better value.
April 15, 2026 at 8:38 am #353317I wasn’t comparing with Motability just on a pound for pound personal contract hire.
But just to advise on your figures the pip payments are 4 weekly and not monthly, you get paid 13 times per year so 1st year is £4160 or £346.67 per month. Also Tesla initial payment is only £295 as they give you the £200 deposit backI would also say that imo the Tesla, even in basic model with 360 cameras and automated cruise etc is on a whole other level to Kia EV3 Air
Also if you use a referral link, (I posted mine above) but loads available online, then you get 650 miles of Tesla supercharging free. If you them recommend anyone to Tesla, then you and them will get another 650 miles free. When using link, you just need to adjust country to UK first as defaults to USA when opened

But as someone who has experience a tesla model 3 with mobility problems it was one of the worse cars ive ever been. The pedals themselves were a major issue and required quite a bit more force than something like an ID.3 even needed.
The shape of getting in and out was very difficult for me despite me being skinny, and that was before my mobility was as bad as it is now and me needing a wheelchair full time.

Had a quick look any idea how much to insure ?
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Though the lack of surround cameras was a bummer on it.
April 15, 2026 at 8:58 am #353327Will depend on your circumstances and where you live, I’ve ordered one and insurance for me is £353 for the year with Aviva which I thought was great
April 15, 2026 at 9:03 am #353328No point in comparing the Tesla to ANY motability car as the Motability Achilles Heel is the threat to install a black box or telematics driver monitoring.
That is a price too far and which most on here is not going to accept.
Certainly not in my case. Even the threat of installing one in the future is too far.

April 15, 2026 at 9:17 am #353334When I looked at quotes it was £700
To the other replies… yes it is the base model but seems to come with what you need if you want a hatch back and don’t do many miles.
It may not work out cheaper for people, I was just showing it as an alternative for a reasonable price considering price changes on the scheme. Only you will know if it makes sense to you, I’m no Tesla fan but in the times we are in I thought it’s a decent deal.

Tesla is all about telemetry. Motability black box is peanuts next to the volumes of information recorded by Tesla.

Incorrect it is NOT in the same league as Motability.
EVERY modern car has telematcs and telemetry
Its ONLY Motability that installs a black box and monitors your phone, then if it doesnt like your driving you get red lights and removed from the scheme.
Tell me how that compares and is equivalent to a Tesla??

Aviva 4 years assuming 4 years no claims £517 £450 excess

I would strongly recommend you to do comparison research.
There is not a vehicle on par with Tesla, when it comes to telemetry. The fact they don’t share this information with your insurance company in the UK doesn’t negate the reality. In countries where tesla runs Tesla Insurance like in the US, they have all the data they need: braking, speed, distance from a car in front of you, changing lanes etc.

Nope
Research done. In the UK.
No black boxes that can terminate the lease on Tesla.
Black boxes and terminated leases on Motability confirmed.
