      Hello All,

As I have posted in the SEAT Alhambra DSG thread, I have nerve problems in both my hands and arms making it difficult to turn the steering wheel of a normal vehicle as I find them to be too heavy for me.

I currently have a 2019 VW Touran and the steering wheel is very light and I can make it heavier in sports mode for my other drivers through the DRIVER PROFILE option.

But I’m finding the VW Touran a bit small for me due to the low seats and small boot for my wheelchair.

I am looking at the VW Sharan and SEAT Alhambra and some members have posted some really helpful advice in the other thread.

However, I would be grateful to hear from anyone with either of these vehicles or any other large vehicle where they have had the Steering Wheel Lightened as a Motability Adaptation?

I would  also be grateful in hearing from anyone who has a large MPV or SUV (bigger than a VW Touran) that has very light steering.

      Thanks so much in advance.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I found the steering on the Volvo XC40 to be very light. But you’ll have to tow a tanker behind you.</p>

I have the Alhambra but I haven’t had the steering done, it is quite heavy compared to my previous 2 cars though, I have had a look at the peugeot rifter/citroen berlingo and the steering was a lot lighter than mine.

            Thanks for the replies.  V

What is the year of manufacture of your Seat Alhambra?  I have read online that from late 2018 onwards both the Alhambra and VW Sharan have Driver Profile installed which allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the Steering Wheel…

It would also be really helpful to hear from anyone who has had the steering wheel lightened on their vehicle.

            Kindest regards.

It’s a 2017 so the newer one’s might be good for you, I’d just go and drive anything that takes your fancy and you might just drop on a peach.

Not that I would notice (I’m not the smallest of people) but I’ve never gave the Hyundai Tucson a thought with regards to steering as find it easy and light and spot on for where you point it. I do tend to keeep the lane assist button off though as I find it strange the car trying to put me right just because I’ve not indicated when over taking when nothing behind me. Seriously have these computers not read the high way code. If you are in an appropriate lane or you manoeuvre does not effect other road users, you do Not have to indicate.

Best advice is as above try as many suitable vehicles as possible you may well end up with a vehicle you’ve never considered before and constantly be surprised with it, in the same way skoda have surprised The motoring world over the years there is still a few surprises out there and if they suit then it’s 3 years worry free and happy motoring, enjoy the search and trying and reaserching cars I think that’s the fun part.

My last MPV, a C4 Grand Picasso (C4 Spacetourer now) had light steering, my current car, the S-Max (Galaxy will be the same) is much heavier.

                        Hi Abercol,

Thanks for your message. I to had a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso (2015 plate) Full Auto not the horrible semi-auto.  I agree Very Very Light Steering, which was perfect for my hands and nerve problems and it had all the mod cons BUT the seating is quite low and getting in and out was a struggle…

I’ve driven a new shape Ford  Galaxy (2010 plate).  But it’s steering when compared to the Grand C4 Picasso and VW Touran is very very heavy…

The VW Touran has similar light steering and the seats are a little higher, but it’s boot space is not as big as the Grand C4 Picasso.

                        Kind regards.

Currently I have a Suzuki Vitara, although I didn’t get it on the scheme, but the steering is very light and it has a great turning circle, far better than in my last 4 cars. It doesn’t get heavier as you drive either as on some cars and there is no option to change it. Really am liking it alot.
