Separate Insurance?

Hello all, new to the forum.

I’m currently in receipt of PIP and under the age of 25, at the moment I have a Mercedes A-Class but my lease is up soon. Would it be possible to get another car (BHP/Insurance Group higher than 120/16 respectively) and pay for a separate insurance policy to cover myself as the included RSA insurance doesn’t cover me as I am under 25?  I’ve been looking through the forum to see if anyone has asked this question before but to no avail.

      Many Thanks

Hi, As you are not the owner of any car that is on the motability provision to you, you cannot carry such insurance, sorry to tell you this but would be illegal to attempt to obtain such, cheers.

I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until your over 25 or the rules change, there is no other option other then buy a car yourself.

No, the advice given by Michael is correct – all insurance must be through RSA Motability, i.e. the insurance included within the lease.

If you aren’t named on the policy (even if you had private insurance), you would likely be in breach of the lease Terms & Conditions. As such, if Motability became aware of what you were doing, they could issue you a Default notice and terminate the agreement = no car, no refund of the advance payment.

            Not worth it.
