      This is driving me nuts.

My wheelchair and triride pretty much fill my boot so want to get roof bars and box. Motability have approved it and also have to inform Direct Line once fitted.

But, DLM won’t cover accessories on insurance and MB don’t have an answer. My house insurance won’t cover it as car related so a logical addition for someone with a disability (others must also need additional luggage space surely) but unable to insure it – looking at around £1000 for bars and box so not small change.

Anyone got any ideas or have managed to get insurance?

Nit ure I can help. I have thule aero bars and change the feet depending on the car, with a roof box from Halfords. (Produced in the same factory as Thule boxes)

As we have two Golden Retreivers and a 6 foot son, for doggie holidays we have used the box to carry stuff we can’t put in the vack with the dogs.to be honest, I haven’t taken out any insurance for the box.

What a barmy situation to be and they call it worry free motoring lol. On a daft but serious note, what if a roofbox caused injury to someone – are you insured for that but, not the roofbox!

Motability chose to switch to DLM, so surely someone knows something. Maybe speak to another advisor at Mb and ask them to escalete and find out for you.

As Roger saysHalfords boxes are made by Thule, so its would be cheaper to buy one from there and even cheaper if you bought one used of ebay etc. Equally there plenty of good roofracks around cheaper than Thule including Halfords or perhaps orlook for a used one in good condition.

Thanks for replies, I think another call to MB is needed, can’t do any harm. Feels like I’m trying to push 2 magnets together but not the ones that join. ?

It’s the same with any optional extras you add to your MB car at time of lease, if the car is stolen or written off, MB will not cover the cost of those optional extras, only the AP as was paid at the tine, leass months car used.
